Today mourning the death of Robert Bechtle, artist and neighbor. he was famous for his realistic paintings of clean California streetscapes and boxy American cars, but I knew him mostly as the guy with the camera and sketchbook scoping out various angles of the streets I walk every day. What he chose to emphasize in his paintings are exactly what I see, the steepness of the streets, heat on the hood of the car, and maybe the memory of the place rather than just its reality. Godspeed Robert, and thank you.
