Some 10 years ago we did a benefit art show at the luggage store gallery to commemorate Little Bobby Hutton. Little Bobby Hutton was the first black panther to ...be shot down and killed by the Oakland police, He was 17 years old. I was asked at the time if I could pick any Bay Are artists to show with who would I pick. It was a no brainer. Emory Douglas the minister of art for the Black Panther Party. Mr. Douglas's did so much for our community in Oakland. The images he produced articulated our stuggal. It created a cohesive conversation that is all to relevant now.

well, it's the 15thof the month and we can't hold our sewing for the people in the Forest, so if you will please consider doing something kind with/for one of your neighbors, this project was born from kindness and creating community....lots of love until we see you again,,,

2 mins May is stroke awareness month. I am writing to ask you to please make a donation to Ledoh (aka Saw Ledoh, Lincoln Basaing,Ledoh and Salt Farm), as he suffered a massive stroke in April. during this crazy pandemic.. For many of you who know me and the luggage store's work, you may know we i have worked with Ledoh since about 1991.. he introduced me and our audiences to butoh..He first performed at luggage store in a piece he choreographed about his father's passing. W...e continue to workwith ledoh from that poinnnt on inviting him to peform in all our public projects from free public performances in Father Boedekker Park, to Yerba Buena Center for the Arts, Performance in the Gutter in Cohen Alley, to the In the Street SF Street Theater Festival ,1000 Market Street, in the Tenderloin Nartional Forest and Swim Gallery. i invited him to the Republic of Georgia for the annual Artisterium, where he forged many relationships and subsequently was invited back to perform several times.. He has made brilliant, timely and moving work and performed at ODC, the Headlands, DAnce Brigade, Ft. Mason Center and other Bay Area venues , as well as nationally.. He has received Creative CApitol Awards,among many other honors.. Ledoh needs our help now!!! He needs funds for rehab,medical and living expenses to heal! Hello,,,Update: SWIM shows and Luggage Store shows postponed until further notice. Sewing for the people at Tenderloin National Forest cancelled on the 15th updates to be posted for next month. The Luggage Store will re evaluate gallery hours in two weeks, it will be mostly closed through March 31. . Trying to do self care and care for the public..Receptions for Tauba Auerbach and Alicia McCarthh scheduled for April 20 postponed, all postponed, Stay safe and calm all and hope to see you soon, lots of love, waiting for the silver lining..... WE'd love to keep the spaces open as a gathering place but this is the problem, , so at the right time, we' will see you, lots of love, xoxo..

Sewing for the People Will be at the TenderloinNational Forest on March 15 from 12 to 5, they will have hands washed and hand washing will be available....
