Lutheran Social Services of Southern California 30.10.2020

Lutheran Social Services of Southern California has committed itself to serving and loving its neighbors through three key philosophies. First, to embrace those in crisis with short-term, emergency services. Second, to equip individuals and families with program resources to help them on their journey. Third, to empower people to break the cycle of poverty and work toward having a dignified life. Help us create a sustainable future for those in need by becoming an ally in the fight against hunger and our commitment to end poverty. Every dollar helps and so can you. Visit https://www.lsssc.org/donate-monthly to join the movement today!

Happy Halloween from all of us at Lutheran Social Services! Halloween is not "cancelled" by any means, but we must take extra precautions to ensure that it is a safe and enjoyable time for all. The same precautions you've been taking should still be put into practice. Let's keep the spirit but get creative! Stay spooky and stay safe!... #Halloween2020

In an increasingly stressful year, the only thing we can control is our attitude toward each day. Are we approaching the day with gratitude and acceptance? Or are we allowing our thoughts to affect our outcomes? The consequences of attitudes are almost always revealed through our outcomes. In today's #FridayInspiration, Dr. LaSharnda Beckwith shares some of her personal challenges and discusses the mindset that gets her through these times. #positivemindset #perspective

Even more great area work, as our Lutheran Social Services of Southern Ca/Long Beach And South Bay Area Office partnered with Dignity Health, St. Mary Mobile Clinic this week to offer free cholesterol and glucose screenings. As part of our Healthy CA Families Program, LSS provides health education & health promotion dedicated to meeting the needs of families and individuals in our LB community. Good health has never been more imperative than now, and we are grateful for the... opportunity to provide this within our wide range of services! #nonprofit #healthycommunities

More great work from our area offices this week, as our LSS-Ventura County office had the opportunity to contribute to the Lutheran World Relief action, taking part in the Quilt Pick-Up at Mount Cross Lutheran Church, Camarillo, CA. Together, our team helped pack 433 boxes of quilts, health kits, and school kits, items which will help to create a sense of basic security in countries where these needs are far from a given. We are grateful for our opportunities to help an amazi...ng cause, one that Lutheran World Relief looks to remedy. Our LSS-Orange County office had a great opportunity for service this week, as they worked alongside Red Hill Lutheran Church & School and St Olaf Lutheran Church in supporting the Lutheran World Relief Quilt Pick-Up. Together we were able to collect, pack, and load a small truck-load worth of quilts and other essential sheltering items. Little things that many of us take for granted- warmth, bedding, and shelter- are needs that we may never consider. But Lutheran World Relie...f targets these areas globally, and we are glad we could take part in this comfort-bringing event. If you want to expand your philanthropic horizons, consider checking out https://lwr.org/ and see how you can get involved! #globalcitizen #nonprofit #worldrelief

The first key highlight of our 2021-2025 strategic plan presented WHO we are preparing to care for. Now we would like to present HOW. The future of LSSSC can be captured in these words: Integrative, Holistic, and Trauma Informed Care. LSSSC will work to develop a behavioral health model that delivers through through eight interconnected dimensions of wellness: Emotional, Spiritual, Intellectual, Physical, Environmental, Financial, Occupational and Social. Our new initiatives ...will provide program services that help targeted populations achieve improved quality of life and longevity of success. These tenets provide the keystone to our work, the guiding principles allowing us to deliver those in need to a position of self-sustaining stability. #nonprofit #howtosucceed #sustainability

#NationalMakeADifferenceDay was founded in 1992 when the USA Weekend Newspaper suggested that, as it was a leap year, people should use that extra day to do good in their communities. It has since become an annual holiday, but this year we have that extra day anyway, so let us all take a minute to consider how we might be able to make a difference today. In our line of work, we've seen that the small things can sometimes have the greatest impact. So big or small, do what you... can today, you won't know the impact you might have until you do! #MakeADifference #nonprofit #service

There is no doubt that this has been a year full of challenges. Have you allowed these challenges to define your year? Or has it been your response to these challenges that defines your year? The answer to that hinges on the attitude in which you carry yourself. In this week's #FridayInspiration, Dr. LaSharnda Beckwith talks about the only thing you can ever have full control of, and the effect attitude has on your response to a challenge. #StayPositive #StayPatient #RespondVsReact

We are so grateful for the people of our congregations who participated in the LSS-Riverside #WalkToFightPoverty. Here are some of our teams, including #WalkingWithGrace from Grace Lutheran walking in memory of Ofelia Suarez. They raised almost $800 alone! All combined, over $4500 was raised for LSS-Riverside and will go toward the valuable, mission-critical work that is needed now more than ever. So many thanks to our fantastic teams and all of our supporters for allowing ...us to embrace those in need, equip them for their challenges, and empower them for the future! You all make it possible. #ForACause #MakeADifference #Nonprofit

Douglas Ginn first came to Central City Lutheran Mission in April of 2018. He was yet another homeless veteran, a staggering population with massive needs, of which LSSSC seeks to serve. Our fantastic CCLM Shelter worked quickly to get Douglas sheltered and in touch with his benefits provider. Often, these clients are without support and truly have no idea where to turn. This is where our amazing case management teams come into play. Douglas now has an apartment and he stil...l finds time to volunteer at LSSSC. When we pick up those around us who have fallen, they are often the ones who come to help when you fall. Our communities are stronger when we are all helping each other. While we may not know what the immediate future looks like, that does not give us license stop planning. We are pleased to announce that we have released our official strategic plan for the years 2021-2025. We have a long history of helping people, and our primary purpose is to continue to get better at serving our communities. With that, we are going to be sharing a few key highlights of our 2021-2025 strategic plan. As environmental circumstances change, so too do our clie...nts. We have established a roster of 12 target clients we are preparing to serve for the next five years. We will always be flexible in the face of change, but this roster will allow us to plan and prepare for our clients to the best of our ability. #nonprofit #strategy #5yearplan
