Our friends were curious about these mounds of dirt that appeared in our yard. As they were observing the mounds the dirt began to wiggle and shake! They had so many questions!! What is doing that? Who is in there? What do they eat? Where do they live? What do they do?? Why not answer these questions and learn about gophers? Miss Chris to the rescue! After much discussion at the mounds of dirt, our friends created an art project that helped them understand what is going on down there Little Shepherd’s Nursery School begins open enrollment for Fall 2021/2022 on Monday, March 1st

With broken hearts we share the sad news that Alexa and Zola’s dad, George Strider, passed away on October 24th. Many school families have asked how to help. What do children learn in a play based preschool program? TEAMWORK: six mixed age group children worked together developing and expanding their ideas for an obstacle course. COMMUNICATION: They verbalized their vision. Listened to others’ ideas and the course grew and was modified with each new idea. They also made requests for materials as needed CREATIVITY and PROBLEM SOLVING: They added new materials, challenges and fixed elements that were unsafe. COMPASSION: Older chi...ldren supported younger ones on the tricky parts. IMPULSE CONTROL: We waited for a turn to go through the course. COGNITIVE SKILLS/CONCEPTS: Shapes and colors, orientation of up, down, over, under, and through PERSEVERANCE: They fell down and got back up and tried again and again ATTENTION SPAN: They focused on this activity for about 30 minutes driven by their own interest, excitement and curiosity. GROSS MOTOR SKILLS: They challenged their bodies physically and with practice, gained enough independence and confidence to do it without help. SELF CONFIDENCE: The kids did ALL of this!! This week our friends in the T/Th class did some gardening and made me dolls. They each blended paint to make their own beautiful and unique skin color Little Shepherd’s Nursery School has a few spots remaining in our T/Th and M/W/F class. What a great day we had at school today! Having fun with our under the sea theme for this week. We enjoyed the Rainbow Fish story teaching us about making friendships. The children enjoyed the visit with Rainbow Fish and getting a shiny scale from him to put on their fish @ First Presbyterian Church of Newhall
