LPAS Culture We are proud sponsors for Habitat for Humanity of Greater Sacramento upcoming Virtual Gala and 35th Year Anniversary Celebration. In preparation, Habitat for Humanity of Greater Sacramento asked us to do a short video featuring one of our LPAS employees on what home means to them, so we were thrilled when our very own SP volunteered this amazing contribution as she just became a first time home buyer!

Have you heard of the Oak Park Tool Library? This project will establish a community-run lending library of tools for Sacramento residents. Think of the times w...hen you have needed a tool and just didn't have it. Your options boil down to borrowing the tool if you know someone who has it; buying the tool; renting the tool; or hiring a professional instead. For many people on limited incomes, it is not feasible to buy or rent a special tool or hire a professional. The Oak Park Tool Library will help address this problem by being a friend you can count on to lend you the tool you need. Although the tool library will help ensure people who are short on cash can borrow a tool when needed, the library will be open to everyone. It's good for all of us to get in the habit of lending and borrowing, and it's good for the environment for us to share tools. The Oak Park Tool Library has been adopted as a project of Alchemist CDC and will eventually be located at the Oak Park Art Garden (Martin Luther King, Jr. Blvd. & 12th/14th Ave in Sacramento). We have quite a bit of fundraising to do in order to make this possible. If you are a member of the community and would like to write a letter of support for the project that can be included with a major upcoming grant application, please let us know! While the Art Garden is already an incredible space, we can't wait to see it become the community-planned space the neighborhood has been dreaming of. Thank you so much to Thais Del Castillo of LPAS Architecture + Design who has been doing pro bono work translating community dreaming into an actual plan. She provided us with the rendering below.

Project Post - We received these awesome progress shots from @modern_chico of our Chico project, MP Blocks Apartments at Meriam Park. Within the pedestrian-centric Tank District where unique restaurants, bars, and retail thrive, these garden style apartments will provide new upscale living options. The modern architecture and landscape will create a desirable community with high end amenities: a clubhouse, fitness center, a yoga studio, pet spa, parcel package center, outdoor lounges with kitchen spaces, a large pool and spa, private cabanas, bocce ball court, fire pits, and BBQs. The outdoor courtyard and rooftop lounge will create outdoor social gathering places and views to the pool and adjacent one acre park. Visit www.meriampark.com to learn more!

Trending LPAS Vice President and Principal, Ron Metzker, was featured in the San Francisco Chronicle yesterday in a Designer Profile article describing his draw to contemporary architecture and how it’s reflected in our projects at LPAS. The Palisades project at the Shipyard in San Francisco is shown as an example of how LPAS works to achieve authenticity through modern design.

Our LPAS Habitat for Humanity of Greater Sacramento entry: Company: LPAS Architecture + Design Team pictured: (left to right) Rachel Crabb, Becky McCormick, Melissa Sabala, Heidi Roseler-Kerby, Katherine Gella, Puppy Nova and Bethanie Taylor ... Fort structure: All parts of the fort were built with items we had already in our homes and in the office. The fort infrastructure was constructed from office coat rakes, office chairs and tables, mobile white board, rope, large plotter paper cardboard tubes to help with height, duct tape, packing tape, clothing pins, and binder clips. The fort siding was made from personal blankets, bed sheets, and fake grass ground cover. To add a special cozy LPAS touch, we decorated it with lights, foliage, trees, plants, sticks, pillows, battery operated candles, employee photos on the rear wall, and of course wine bottles and smores by our fireplace (lit with battery operated candles and gift tissue paper to make it feel more real). Description: Our fort allows us to feel at home while away from home (at work). When we need a break from the computer and need to relieve some stress, we turn on the candlelight and cozy up in fuzzy pillows and blankets to take a nap or read a book, all in the comfort of our fort. We love to hang out with our colleges and collaborate around the fireplace eating smores, drinking wine and talking about weekend plans. Office pictures hung up on the back wall bring fond memories we have shared during the year and gets us excited to brainstorm ideas for next year events. LPAS is not just a company with employees, it’s a family. Not only is it a joy to hang out in the fort with my fellow Women Builders but the creative discussions we have had on design and building the fort itself brought us closer together and was a lot of fun! This challenge isn’t just about building a fort but also friendships and experiences. Covid can’t stop us, women keep on building! Habitat for Humanity ‘Women Build 2020’
