"We are witnessing, and many experiencing personally, pain, anguish, and outrage at the senseless killing of George Floyd by the Minneapolis police. For many, Mr. Floyd's death put a spotlight on the implicit bias and systemic racism that pervades our communities and nation. For others, it triggers memories of personal experiences with, and feelings toward, police officers." To acknowledge this moment, offer support to those working through the trauma caused by this situation..., and hear from leaders with lived experience, State Senator Nancy Skinner's office is hosting their sixth virtual Town Hall on Thursday, June 4, from 5 p.m. to 6 p.m. The Town Hall's panelists will participate via Zoom, and you will be able to watch the discussion on the homepage of her website. Leaders who will share their insights during this Town Hall include: Assemblymember, Dr. Shirley Weber, author of AB 392, which changed CA's police use of force rules Dr. Noha Aboelata, CEO of the Roots Community Health Center in Oakland Cephus Johnson, uncle of Oscar Grant, co-founder Love Not Blood Campaign John Jones, III of the The Dellums Institute for Social Justice/ Just Cities https://sd09.senate.ca.gov/

On behalf of Love Not Blood Campaign www.lovenotbloodcampaign.org, we thank all who came out to July 8, 2010, Verdict Day. 8 years ago my wife and I had the first Verdict Day July 8, 2011, and the desire was 1. Make sure that this historic day was never forgotten or sweep under a rug and 1. that we bring together Mother’s whose loved ones were murdered by Police so that they could hug, love and strengthen each other and move forward in the fight for Justice. From that time ...to now we have traveled all across the country uniting families for one common cause which is holding police accountable when they Murder. Yesterday was very Powerful Today is very powerful July 8, 2019 marks 9 years since the first and sadly only officer in California history to be charged arrest and convicted for an on-duty shooting. Today July 8, 2019, is a very powerful day because today the Senate will vote on AB392 Save Our Lives / Police Accountability, unfortunately, it came on the life of Stephan Clark. We made some progress but it’s taking to long we want officers charged, arrested, convicted and sent to prison when they murder. See more

But on this day he got them handcuffs and his bulldog Attorney MIchael Raines who had been getting officers off for murdering Black and Brown for over 30 plus years was sitting at the table in shock and crying . Where else would we be on July 8, 2010 Verdict Day but at California State Capitol on The Senate floor for a historical vote on policing AB392 The Act To Save Lives introduced and carried by San Diego Assemblywoman Dr Shirley Webber and trust she put everything on the line to go up against one of California biggest gangs the police I look forward to her sharing this very difficult journey we experienced some of the Backlash , bulling and even tears shed while continuing... to fight as she kept it real , real as she sat in meetings through this process I personally love this California Soul Sister #1 . Also in this picture is Senator Skinner whom California Families United 4 Justice worked with to get her bill SB1421 which came into Law January 1, 2018 which allows family to access police officers history of conduct which could never happen for families thank you Senator Skinner and last but not least Senator Bradford out of Los Angeles who is a sponsor of AB392 and will boldly give The Senate floor , Public Safety Committee and any other floor in The State Capitol the uncut , raw , no chaser truth about Racism and white supremacy that is still in The State Capitol and in The State Of California. It was a great honor working with them all but we all know there is so much work to be done to hold Police accountable when they murder . We also want to thank our families in California Families United 4 Justice and thank every family member who Uncle Bobby fought to be sure you were able to speak took the challenged and on your appointed days got up there and slayed falsehood and gave them all truth about this reality of having your love one murdered but not getting Justice . Last but certainly not least we thank all the amazing Co-Sponsors Of AB392 some who started out 2 years ago when it was AB391 (I think lol )anyways we had to make a decision to let die on the floor because two years ago it was not going to make it to The Governors desk. AB 392 Dr Webber picked back up for the fight and we all fought with with her . You all are amazing organizations doing some great work and together we all did this . So I just wanted everyone to know this was just not just California Families United 4 Justice it was a collective of amazing Organizations with two Orgs lead by impacted members which was STOP and of course California Families United 4 Justice And as we all know The Struggle Continues !!! The California Act to Save Lives is supported by the ACLU of California, California Families United 4 Justice Alliance for Boys and Men of Color/PolicyLink, Anti Police-Terror Project, California Faculty Association, Communities United for Restorative Youth Justice (CURYJ),, PICO California, STOP Coalition, UDW America AFSCME Local 3930, Youth Justice Coalition.

Our bill AB392 California Act to Save Lives, passed the Senate floor today. This is a historical day. The statue that has protected police officer has been on the books since 1872. The oldest statue in California finally was defeated today. This has been a two-year struggle that we were involved with. Now California will have the strictest Use of Force bill in the Nation. A model for the entire nation to follow. Now we must enforce it and make it work. We have now 5 legislati...on dealing with police accountability and transparency. AB 71 Use of Force Data Collection, AB953 Racial Identification Profiling Act, AB 748 Video and Audio release Act, SB1421 The Right To Know Act, and today AB392 California Act to Save Lives. It is our season. Now let's drive the nation toward true accountability and transparency. Today was a great day. Share this widely. I must add, today is Verdict Day, the day Johannes Mehserle was convicted of the murder of Oscar Grant, The first and only police officer in the history of California to be sentenced to jail. We can not let him be the only one. This did not happen by chance. See more
