Here is an excerpt from Mat Gleason's essay from the Lost Murals of LA booklet. "That was street art that insisted we do anything but obey. It insisted we imagine; it didn’t tell us anything more than a simple invitation: an invitation to complete the story." Stop by and pick up your copy at the opening.

Victor Henderson's fantastic work "Backyard" was created to be on display inside the Van Nuys State Building in 1984. Standing at 8' x 43' 6" made it hard miss in the buildings cafeteria. The mural was removed two short years later in 1986 and placed in storage at Cook's Crating, in Los Angeles. It has since disappeared its whereabouts remains a mystery, despite Henderson's efforts to locate it. Learn more about Victor's "Backyard" mural at the Lost Murals of L.A. opening 11/10/12.

Here is another amazing work by Kent Twitchell. The LA Marathon Mural was first painted on the 405 near Inglewood at Century Boulevard and later moved to the 5 just north of Downtown LA. This year Caltrans is working on placing the mural behind a special concrete gray paint to protect it from continued vandalism. Kent hopes that one day the mural will be restored with out the threat of vandalism.
