Classic Drop Punch/Jab & Follow Up Cross
Immi the creator of Krav Maga, is known to promulgate the Principles of Hand to Hand Combat! One of his Applied Principles was to use the human leverages to c...reate impact and apply the principles of leverage analytics to the mechanics of all kicks, hand strikes, elbow Blows and knee kicks...If you take a look at his predecessor Fairbairn, you would not find such there! Using the non attacking arm to counter the counter attacks...
This photo which is inverted for better view of two angles shows two problems to me! First, the boxing drill of executing inside defense vs. Cross Punch is not... realistic. This form is only good against Southpow Drop Punch or a Jab. Over the years boxers practiced many drills and many of them were unrealistic and never worked in a bout! The tactical error is to assume that someone would skip the Jab or Drop Punch and you will be able to block his cross if you train hard. Realistically, the second someone is lunging with the Jab or Drop Punch you have to start you block before he reaches the hotzone. If you are letting him stand in the hotzone close enough where if he lead you have no time to command your hand to block him and to execute the block while you cannot know when his brain commanded his arm to commence the attack, you will alwasy be a step behind and he will be a step ahead. Therefore you must block the arm that is closer to you when he moves in and coutner attack and not wait for the cross to come. If he skips the Cross, you would block the air and counter attack. The second error I see, is that the thought that if you catch him you would prevent him from being able to leverage other attacks. Well waiting for the cross endangers you to take the Jab get distracted and then take the full Cross! But lets say if he is doing as you say and throwing the Cross first, and retracting, his retracting elbow might block your rib punch. The other tactical point is that straight punches have greater range than hooks and uppercuts, and if you move closer without immediately hitting him but grabbing him first he might be able to retract the Cross and come up with a left hook, or move on to some sort of grappling maneuver... Remember...techniques will be useless unless you apply the principles of Krav Maga. #PureKravMaga
If you would take every technique, tactic, and training drill, ever created by any martial art and fighting sport, analyze it, sort it out, eliminate doubles, e...xclude the irrelevant, and put it in the hierarchy of prioritization under the human reaction time limit, for the purpose of hand to hand combat facilitating the optimization of self defense to every one possible, you would be left with the ballpark of the two hundred techniques and tactics and training drills covered in the twenty one hour core curriculum of The Pure Krav Maga Training System! In fact what you are drilling is a prioritized and optimized method of reaching and manipulating the opponent's pressure points first! You are doing so by learning the map of the pressure points, the route to reach them and the routes the opponent can try to prevent you from doing so by evading with his body or blocking with his arms and legs. You have to also learn the optimized way to of moving and generating maximum speed and force with your motions to get optimal sufficient effects. Once you learn the particles of the system, you combine them with navigation and combination drills to move along the chain of defense (far from reach to a closer reach)... The critical advantage of being able to go over the twenty-one hour core curriculum is the memorization not only of the automatic motor skills of the techniques, but also how exactly to execute them in the training drills. If you do the particles wrong, the whole would be wrong and if you do the particles right and put them together wrong, the whole would be wrong too. So learning the exact complete method of training prevents the future complete waste of hours of training instilling life costing bad habits! [Boaz Aviram]
As for H2H Combat, with my unique experience, I can tell you that with most Martial Arts and Civilian Krav Maga alike and the varieties of H2H out there, you ne...ed to first pause and examine what you are going to be trained in. There are endless sales of techniques, and fitness training drills that don't conform to the human efficiency and reaction time limits and thus ill designed training programs are vast. I can suggest doing some viewing on your own and you can even find a training partner and train together, and perhaps some heavy duty reading as well. The realistic H2H possible part does not take more than a few splits seconds and therefore any mistake in what you are attempting to fit in that time frame can cost with life.
