At Terasaki Budokan - Little Tokyo Service Center a 150-panel solar system donated by Mitsubishi Electric was designed and installed by GRID Alternatives. Over 25 years, Little Tokyo Service Center will save at least $366,000 in power and eliminate 751 tons of GHG which is equivalent to eliminating 143 cars from the road or planting 17,500 new trees! GRID Alternatives trains local university students and volunteers with disabilities to install systems. The #LADF allocated $10,000,000 #NewMarketsTaxCredit's toward construction of the Recreation Center, supporting an estimated 30,000 - 40,000 visits yearly with sports, after-school & senior programs, health & wellness activities & more. #NMTC

We allocated $15,000,000 #NewMarketsTaxCredit's to substantially rehabilitate an existing 41,000 square foot building for use as a new Vallarta Van Nuys Supermarket. The Project includes the substantial rehab of a vacant Toys R Us property to create a full service, minority-owned grocery store in a USDA designated food desert. By increasing access to nutritious and culturally appropriate foods for residents, the Vallarta Van Nuys Supermarket will be addressing the incidence a...nd prevalence of diet related disease. Vallarta estimates that 80% of the permanent full time employees will be filled by bilingual, low-income residents of the surrounding community. These employment opportunities will benefit the local low-income, minority neighborhoods further bolstering the regional economy.
