It was a deep honor to participate in the 2020 California Economic Summit hosted by California Forward this morning as a panelist on California Latino Economic ...Institute's recovering from the economic impacts of COVID-19, especially our communities most impacted by this horrible pandemic. As panel representative of the League of California Cities and City of Bellflower, we touched on policy strategies & goals that are needed to ensure businesses recover, re-employment/re-hiring policies, and how state & local governments can work together to ensure businesses recover and we get our residents back to work quickly post-COVID-19. Proud to have shared many of the innovations taking place at the local level throughout our state to mitigate as many of these negative impacts as possible, expediting municipal processes to get businesses back up and running, supporting our local businesses via grants & incentives, and how the creation of a task force of state & local officials to develop actionable business & job creating tactics will expedite getting our devastated workers back to work ASAP. I want to thank my fellow panelists Assemblymember Robert Rivas, Assemblymember Blanca Rubio and LA Chamber of Commerce CEO Maria Salinas for their wisdom and time today. Gavin Newsom announces new stay-at-home order tied to ICU capacity in 5 regions around California -- It will allow people to continue with essential activities like going to the doctor, buying groceries and picking up takeout. It also allows distanced outdoor exercise, like hiking, and outdoor religious ceremonies.... Retail will be allowed to operate in those areas at 20% capacity. Schools that have already reopened for in-person classes can remain open. All playgrounds, indoor recreation, salons, museums, zoos, aquariums, movie theaters, wineries, bars, casinos, live-audience sports and amusement parks must close in regions subject to the order.
