4:30 pm Update - The Feather Fire remains at 30 acres and is still 50% contained. Firefighters are mopping up and are cautiously optimistic that they will have ...a good handle on it this evening, barring any unforeseen weather impacts. 12:30 pm Update - Feather Fire is now 50% contained. No growth in size which is currently estimated at 30 acres. Size may change as mapping improves. #greatworkfirefighters 8:30 am - Friday, August 14 Update: The Feather Fire gained little acreage overnight (good work firefighters!) and is now about 40 acres; there is line around 30% of the fire. It is burning in steep terrain (grass, brush & timber) about 1 mile northwest of Howland Flat in Sierra County; no threats have been reported. Aircraft will be very visible supporting the firefighters on the ground. Smoke patterns will be changing as the morning inversion lifts and smoke clears. #firefightersafety #situationalawareness August 13: The Feather Fire is burning in a remote, rugged area of the Plumas National Forest near St. Louis Bridge/Slate Creek area, west of Howland Flat and Mt. Fillmore. Firefighters estimate the fire at about 25 acres and holding. Fire behavior has moderated along with the rate of spread. Evening inversion is putting "a lid" on smoke which will clear tomorrow morning. People are smelling smoke in LaPorte, Meadow Valley and Blairsden along with points in between. Aircraft will be on scene again in the morning along with additional crews. #PlumasNF #wildfire #firefightersafety

Around 1AM this morning, we responded to a structure fire on Highway 70 across from Spring Garden. The residents got out safely, but unfortunately the historic ...building sustained major damage. Thank you to all of our mutual aid partners from Long Valley CSD & Long Valley Volunteer Fire Department, Quincy Volunteer Fire Department Inc., Graeagle Fire Department, Plumas County Sheriff's Office, and U.S. Forest Service-Plumas National Forest for their response and hard work; we couldn’t do it without them. Kudos to PCSO deputies for initiating an immediate call for mutual aid from our neighboring departments when they first arrived on scene. See more
