Last night's monthly Zoom meeting. We discussed Rims and Herms Mash systems and Jon had a nice presentation. The educational aspect of these meetings has been pretty cool. What should be discussed next? And Welcome to our new prospective members. We're lways accepting more. The trailer for Brewmance is out! The film follows the in-the-moment stories of two pairs of Long Beach homebrewers preparing to open their breweries, and is woven with a Greek chorus of craft beer icons. The film will be released later this year! #brewmantic @brewmancemovie @tenmilebrewing @liberationbrewing @longbeachhomebrewers ... @steinfillers #homebrewshop #craftbeer #homebrewing #longbeach #signalhill @tenmilebrewer @ericericboberic @liberationdan See more
Hi all, It is with a heavy heart that I inform you that the Red White & Brews is being cancelled for 2020. Rest assured that we are planning for a return to the competition in 2021! With that said, I want to bring us back to the core reason we hold this event annually, which is to benefit the local veterans’ organizations. The very reason we are cancelling this year’s event is the same reason that it is more important than ever that we support our local veterans’ charities.... Our homeless veterans are even more at risk of contracting COVID-19, and are exposed more than ever, and it is up to all of us to step up to take care of them after everything they have given to take care of us. To that end, I am personally going to donate the $50 I would have spent on RW&B entry fees to a Veterans’ Charity, and I encourage you to do the same. Here are a few of the charities we were looking to work with this year if we were able to hold the competition: US Vets: US Vets was the organization that received the event donations in 2019. US Vets Long Beach offers supportive services including transitional housing, permanent housing, employment and housing services. They also feature the ADVANCE Women’s Program designed specifically for female veterans and their children, which is the largest woman’s veteran program in the country. The site serves more than 800 veterans daily. https://www.usvetsinc.org/donate/donate-long-beach/ CVMA: The Combat Veterans Motorcycle Association (CVMA) is an association of Veterans from all branches of the United States Armed Forces who ride motorcycles as a hobby. The CVMA mission is to support and defend those who have defended their country and their freedoms. The focus of the CVMA is to help Veteran care facilities provide a warm meal, clothing, shelter, and guidance, or simply to say "thank you" and "welcome home." https://www.paypal.com/donate/ Patriot Guard: The Patriot Guard Riders (PGR) is an organization based in the United States whose members attend the funerals of members of the U.S. military and first responders at the invitation of a decedent's family. The group forms an honor guard at military burials, helps protect mourners from harassment and fills out the ranks at burials of indigent and homeless veterans. In addition to attending funerals, the group also greets troops returning from overseas at homecoming celebrations and performs volunteer work for veteran's organizations such as Veterans Homes. https://www.patriotguard.org/donate/ Thank you for your time and consideration, Jon Silvertooth President, Long Beach Homebrewers
There is no SCHF (Fest) this year so here's the scoop on what's going on instead. It's "Safer at Home, Brewing!" California Homebrewers Association is pleased to announce Safer at Home, Brewing! on May 1 & 2, 2020. This will be a YouTube live stream event, so everyone can follow from their own home, from 6-8PM on Friday May 1, and 11AM-3:30PM Saturday May 2. The schedule can be found here; details are below: (swipe right) Live Beer Tastings with Pro Brewers Both Friday night... and Saturday afternoon, we will be talking with professional breweries in Southern California about their brewery, their beer, have guided tasting of their beer, and more! We just concluded our first virtual meeting via Zoom during this new "normal" of social distancing and quarantine. It went pretty well. We discussed the Kolsch style with anecdotes from several members' experiences from Koln. We also sampled various commercial and homebrewed offerings. We also had an unexpected visit with informative input from Andy Carter @deldotbeer from the @calhomebrewers and @venturavibe - After that, we had a discussion and tasting of our Altbier bi...g brew beers that we made with @lbbeer - then it was a free for all... And then - Nathan insisted on shots...... And so went the 1st ever Long Beach Homebrewers Virtual Meeting. Finally made my first hop scented candle. This is my test candle, so therefore won't be available for sale just yet. I will have to burn this first to see how much aromatics it has and adjust accordingly for those that I sell.
In light of the recent impact that coronavirus (COVID-19) has had on our communities, and upon request of the Governor, we are going to cancel the April meeting. While I’d love to meet and try everyone’s Kolsch, I want to ensure that we do the right thing to keep everyone safe and brewing. I’m also sorry to announce that the producers will be postponing their Private Advance Screening of Brewmance at the Art Theatre of Long Beach. The event was previously set to happen on ...Tuesday, the 7th of April. The Art Theatre of Long Beach will close for a month, so they’ll look to reschedule their screening for a later date and will keep our membership updated. Hopefully things will all calm down in time to have the May meeting, at which time we can try all the beers that I’m sure we’re going to brew with our downtime. I wish you all good health during this difficult time. Jon Silvertooth President, Long Beach Homebrewers [email protected]
Tomorrow will be our March meeting. The style will be Session beers. Any style of beer is acceptable, as long as the ABV is under 4% ABV. Looking forward to tasting what everyone has brewed! We may even start to see some beers that were brewed at last month's big brew @lbbeer. Remember, tomorrow's meeting will also be our yearly elections. Be there if you want to vote or run for a position. 2020 club dues are also due! As always meetings are the 2nd Tuesday of the month, 7pm @steinfillers #homebrewclub #sessionbeer @homebrewassoc #lowabv #lowabvbigflavor #longbeach #homebrew #beer #longbeachhomebrewers #steinfillers #showerbeer
