Lola's Sari-Sari Store art installation facilitated a free community Moringa/Marunggay Workshop as part of the anotherspace exhibit programming at Eagle Rock Plaza! We touched on the recent commercialization of moringa being the hottest "new superfood" when the tree has been around for centuries and used for nutritional & medicinal benefits in countries around the world In the workshop, we discussed sustainability and the moringa tree while learning about its healing and cu...linary benefits. Together we connected w/ the Malunggay and made a dish from Michelle's childhood, the Filipino soup Suwam Na Mais (Moringa & Corn soup) & a fruit smoothie w/ fresh moringa leaves! Castillo grew up in an intergenerational, immigrant, Filipino household where moringa continues to be a big part of her culture and community. Thank you to our workshop attendees!
