As we close out this crazy year, we are happy to be able to share a story that found its happy ending in the middle of it. A colony of feral cats was trapped and brought in to the shelter. Often feral/barn cats don't have the best odds but with the efforts of the Animal Control Officers a new home for the WHOLE feral group was found at a local dairy. The officers brought the story to the LASF and we were happy to fund all the spay and neuter costs for these precious kitties.... They are now at their new #furever home keeping the rodent population in check! Thank you to all who have and continue to donate to the Lodi Animal Services Foundation and make possible these success stories. #lovelodi

Buddy's Odyssey Two years ago, Buddy was first spotted on the east side of Lodi. He was extremely shy and timid and no one could get close enough to him. Humane traps were set but Buddy was too smart for those! Animal control officers frequented the area and tried to convince Buddy to come with them but nothing was successful. Business owners in the area took it upon themselves to keep food, water, and beds available for Buddy in hopes that they could keep him safe and heal...thy until he could be brought off the streets. Buddy eventually came to be known as the "Richmaid Dog" and gained lots of followers. Two weeks ago another push was made to get a plan together to get Buddy off the streets before another winter season was here. The plan came together and worked great! A tranquilizing dart was used and Buddy was secured. Albeit a little dramatic, Buddy was finally safe and off the streets. Buddy is now in a foster home with someone who had actually been feeding him for over a year! It's a slow process but Buddy is learning how to trust humans and accept them. Soon we are sure we'll be able to report that he's asking for belly rubs and snuggles. Thank you to the wonderful citizens and business owners of Lodi who kept a watchful eye on this sweet soul. Even though Buddy was homeless, he still had a family in all of you! #animalshelterappreciationweek #lovelodi #richmaiddog

For those of you who didn't follow Flash's story the first time around, Flash was left on a bench in a crate at the Lodi Shelter in August of 2020. Fortunately for him and his family, he was micro chipped and we all learned of his amazing story and got to be a part of its final and most exciting chapter! Twelve-year-old Flash used to live in the Sacramento area with his family who had had him from a young kitten. Sometime in May of 2019 (last year!) he went missing or was st...olen and his family couldn't find him. After several months, Flash's family moved to Idaho and started settling in to their new life. Little did they know that 15 months after Flash's disappearance they would be receiving a call from the Lodi Animal Shelter letting them know that Flash was happy, healthy, and ready to be reunited with his family! Volunteers, shelter staff, the LASF and donors all sprang in to action and funded Flash's road trip to Idaho. What an exciting story to be a part of and just another example of why we appreciate our local shelter and the staff and volunteers who give safe harbor to the animals that find their way to them.
