March 25, 1911 110 years ago today, the Triangle Shirtwaist factory fire claimed the lives of 146 garment workers, who perished in the flames of a New York sw...eatshop factory or who jumped to their deaths to escape being burned alive. Most of the victims were recent immigrant girls, aged 16 to 23. They died because factory bosses had locked the doors to the stairwells and exits. Owners Isaac Harris and Max Blanck were put on trial on manslaughter charges, but were acquitted. Despite previous smaller fires, the owners successfully claimed the building was fireproof under existing fire codes. Before the horrific events of Sept. 11, 2001, the Triangle Shirtwaist factory fire was considered by some to be the darkest day in the history of New York City. It galvanized the modern labor movement to improve worker safety, and led to many building and fire codes that we enjoy now. Today, the building is occupied by New York University. See more

Firefighters are known for their vast scope of knowledge & skills and are considered "Jacks of all trades". Before we became firefighters, almost all of us had other careers that taught us practical skills. Your Ceres Firefighters have been assisting Ceres Facilities personnel in a remodeling of the firefighter and engineer sleeping quarters at Ceres Fire Station 16 (Pecos Road). The firefighter and engineer used to share a bedroom, but due to COVID-19 the room was split into two bedrooms. Ceres Firefighters have assisted with the demo, framing, drywall, and general labor to get the remodel completed quickly and at a lower cost for the city.

A scald injury can happen at any age. Children, older adults and people with disabilities are especially at risk. Hot liquids from bath water, hot coffee and even microwaved soup can cause devastating injuries. Scald burns are the second leading cause of all burn injuries. Before placing a child in the bath or getting in the bath yourself, test the water by moving your hand, wrist and forearm through the water. The water should feel warm, not hot, to the touch. ... #burnawarenessweek #iaffsafetytips #CeresFirefighters #ChiefMiller #IAFF #BayAreaFirefighter #cpf #Fullyinvolved #Fire #Thinredline #Firefighter #Bomberos #Training #TrainYourProbie #UnionFirefighter #BoxAlarm #FireService #firedepartment #California #Community #MCST #ResourceSharing #CeresFire #CeresFireDepartment #Local3636 #Ceres #Modesto #CeresCommunity

To the person/s who borrowed/stole our barbeque last evening, we hope it serves you as well and as faithfully as it has served our organization and the communit...y events we used it to support. Perhaps you could even return it once you're done. Since that is not likely, we wanted to pass along a few tips we learned to help you prepare the delicious meals we have over the last few years. 1. Stay away from cooking hamburgers. The grease will be on you and everything else within a 30' radius, and it is unbelievably smokey. The kids at sporting events love hamburgers, and you will get conned into making them more than you realize. 2. Start the box with a fair amount of charcoal, then switch to wood but not too much it burns really hot. Four to five sticks of a nice oak will work for a very long time. 3. It would help if you also got a heavy-duty apron; otherwise, your belly is part of the cooking. No matter how long the utensil's handle you're using, the apron will make your day a lot better. 4. The firebox grates need to be flipped each use; they tend to warp if you have a long cook. 5. Pull any meat from the grill a few degrees before thoroughly cooked, and place in a foil-lined ice chest. They will finish cooking there while waiting to serve. 6. Don't raise the grates past the height. Once everything heats up, no amount of force nor obscenity will allow you to lower them if raised too high. 7. After a good cooking session, you will have an unbelievable amount of hot ash. Don't even try to drive anywhere; otherwise, you'll cast hot embers everywhere. You may be able to locate some plates to borrow on your late-night excursions; these would help. We also don't want to find you because of a fire you started. 8. The grill loves to be clean and shiny, which was probably part of the allure when you decided to borrow it. Smart and Final has an excellent stainless steel cleaner that will help you keep it shiny and easier to clean between uses. 9. This is the most important note. If you do, clean it, and we hope you do. DO NOT clean it in your driveway at home. No matter how hard you try, the ash ends up on all of your and your neighbor's cars. The grease ends up being bicycle tracks or tiny shoe prints in every neighbor's driveway; their parents appreciate it. Finally, the registration expires in 2022; make sure you get over to the DMV and get it updated, and we hope our little barbeque brings you as many good memories as it has us. To anyone who has seen our barbecue today around town or perhaps stashed in someone's back yard, please give the Kern County Sheriffs Department a call @661-861-3110. This week is National Burn Awareness Week. No matter the size or severity of a burn injury, seek treatment at a burn center verified by the American Burn Association. If you can’t access one, make sure you consult with the nearest burn center for your injury!

Ceres Professional Firefighters Local 3636 proudly gives their endorsement to Couper Condit in the 2020 election for Ceres City Council District 4. Couper has t...he goal to make Ceres the safest city in Stanislaus County. He worked with California Assemblymember Flora to help secure a $12,000,000 grant for the fire departments within Stanislaus County to upgrade our old and failing radio communications programs and hardware. Couper knows Ceres and has been active within the #CeresCommunity. To gain more knowledge about the City and how it works, Couper served on the Ceres Planning Commission. Local 3636 encourages the community to get out and vote this election season.

Learn About Fires in Fire Prevention Week! In just two minutes a fire can become life-threatening. In five minutes a residence can be engulfed in flames. Fire is FAST! In less than 30 seconds a small flame can turn into a major fire. It only takes minutes for thick black smoke to fill a house or for it to be engulfed in flames.... Fire is HOT! Heat is more threatening than flames. Room temperatures in a fire can be 100 degrees at floor level and rise to 600 degrees at eye level. Inhaling this super-hot air will scorch your lungs and melt clothes to your skin. Fire is DARK! Fire starts bright, but quickly produces black smoke and complete darkness. Fire is DEADLY! Smoke and toxic gases kill more people than flames do. Fire produces poisonous gases that make you disoriented and drowsy. Asphyxiation is the leading cause of fire deaths, exceeding burns by a 3-to-1 ratio.
