KNOWLEDGE IS POWER! Chasing low interest rates? It is more difficult than you think! The chart below is the 10 Year Treasury Bond for March 11, 2020. This chart is what most fix rate mortgages follow. At 10AM, it was @ .682, by the afternoon, it closed @ .878. A huge jump in 1 day.... So what does all this mumbo jumbo mean? Well, if you had a loan started this morning at 3.50% and your Loan Officer did not lock that rate, then the afternoon likely jumped up to 3.75%. Market volatility is nothing new. We just got accustomed (and lazy) to a good and stable economy, with not much drama in past few years. We forget this is what markets do. We must be knowledgeable and ready for it. REALTORS - If your client is in the process of buying and has been pre-approved for a loan @ 3.50% rate, then any move up in rate may void that pre-approval.
