Building our SOCL Community at Loyola Marymount University! Meeting one of our Sociology majors, Lekem Amsal! '21 "I am Lekem Amsal, and I’m a #sociology major. If you spend time with me, you’ll quickly realize I am very interested in #reproductivejustice, and #childdevelopment. I also have a YouTube channel where I talk about various different topics, but it is mainly centered around all forms of #blackbeauty. I love talking to all types of people, so feel free to contact me...! Some of my #careergoals include (but are not limited to) facilitating #research related to reproductive justice e and/or child development. Sociology has helped shape the way I think, and I truly think it’s for the better as I am constantly finding myself question all things around me. This always leads me to a better understanding of the world overall, so I love my major!!" #highereducation #education #college #university #sociology #students #communitydevelopment #studentengagement

'22 "I am a 3rd year #SOCL student with a minor in #AsianPacificAmericanStudies, I enjoy interdisciplinary studies and how I can relate my major/minor in coursework, #volunteering, and #workexperience. I hope to #learn more about #HR and #recruiting, as well as an interest in the legal field and obtaining my #Paralegal #certificate. I am interested in utiliz...ing the #qualitative and #quantitative research skills I have acquired through my #SOCL and #APAM courses to work with #data and #researchwriting, and look forward to implementing these skills in the HR and Legal fields. I am grateful for the Sociology department's unique ability to offer reading, writing, and research courses to fine-tune my skillsets, and I look forward to specifying my interests further in upper-division courses. I am currently involved in the #Filipino cultural club Isang Bansa, a member of the Delta Zeta Sorority, and recently accepted to participate in the Office of Research & Creative Arts Research Learning Community. Each membership has provided unique #friendships, #communities, and #support and I could not be more #thankful for #LMU and the variety of activities offered!" See more

Building our SOCL Community! Meeting one of our Sociology majors, Nicole Ghodsian! '20 "I am a senior from Beverly Hills, California; finishing my undergraduate studies a semester early in December 2020. Since my #freshman year at #LMU, I have been an active member of multiple extracurricular activities and I have made lifelong friendships and memories. I am also a member of the #Dean's List and will be graduating #CumLaude. Attending LMU has easily been one of the best deci...sions I have made! I plan on attending #dentalschool or #lawschool soon after #undergrad. Obtaining my #BAdegree at LMU has expanded my knowledge across curriculums and I have been able to develop skills that help me better understand #humanbehavior, #culture, and #socialchange that will help me #connect with my future dental patients or law clients." #highereducation #education #college #university #sociology #students #communitydevelopment #studentengagement

Justice Ruth Bader Ginsburg rose to the Supreme Court in a rather remarkable way. From her humble beginnings in Brooklyn, New York, to Harvard Law School, she enrolled along with 500 men and only 7 women. Throughout her life she faced adversity and continued to push through with tremendous resolve. She managed to juggle her roles as a law student, a wife, and a mother at the time, and went on to become a judge on Washington D.C.’s Court of Appeals. From there, she became the first Jewish woman to serve on the supreme court after being nominated by Bill Clinton and confirmed by the Senate in 1993. She will continue to serve as an inspiration to many Americans for years to come.
