Hey CLS! Don't forget today is the first Teen Court Session of the year! Come by to help out and get some pro bono hours!: Want to earn pro bono hours while low-key mentoring local high school students and helping them gain a better understanding of the legal system? Criminal Law Society has got you covered! Teen Court will take place this year at Los Angeles High School (which is about a 10 min drive from LLS; carpooling available if necessary.) ... When: the last Wednesday of every month from 3:30-5:00(ish) pm. Starting September 30! What exactly is Teen Court: it is essentially an informal juvenile proceeding where high school students get to experience some of what it is like to be a juror and a lawyer while getting familiar with restorative justice principles and the legal system in general (in a positive way). The program is a collaboration with Professor Sande Buhai, Judge Steven Kleifeld and Judge Gail Feuer from the Los Angeles Superior Court (Bonus: it's also a good networking opportunity if you are thinking about clerking in the Los Angeles Superior Court)! Anyone who wants to just come check it out is welcome and, if you'd like to get more involved, you can help mediate the students' as they craft their recommended probationary terms and maybe even help out with the newly formed Teen Court Club at the high school where the students are trained. So if you are interested in restorative and/or rehabilitative-geared justice and/or mentoring cool high school students, you should come check it out!
