Have you ever met a shy dog? The dog might run and hide when a person approaches, or lower their body, flatten their ears, and cower in a corner. At our kennel, we have seen many shy and fearful dogs, almost to the point of being feral. There have been some dogs that are so shut down that it takes months of the staff working with them to bring them out of this fearful state. What makes a dog shy or fearful and how can we help them? Check out our latest article for some insig...ht into shy dog behaviors and what you can do to help build confidence in a shy or fearful dog. https://living-free.org/how-to-help-a-shy-dog/

Happy Easter, from Barnaby, Lotus, and all of us at Living Free Animal Sanctuary! Barnaby, our feisty adoptable chihuahua, and Lotus, who was recently adopted, looked adorable in their Easter bunny ears. Thank you to Lynne Mall and Ronni Haworth for putting together this photoshoot. Lotus took her job a little too seriously, standing very still and patiently waiting for her photo to be taken. Barnaby seemed to be laughing through the whole process.

Gideon loves life in the mountains. He loves the fresh mountain air, the cool mornings and sunny afternoons. He recently gained a new kennel mate (Gia) and, when they aren't playing, the two of them enjoy sunbathing.

Onyx is a lovable and huggable dog. He recently had the pleasure of being fostered in a loving home for several months. He flourished in a home environment - which was a great learning experience for him. He is now back with our kennel and is hoping to find the right adopter to come along and give him a forever home.

We love receiving updates on our Living Free dog and cat alum. Our most latest update comes from recently adopted Tip, now named Freyja, Freyja's adopter, Katie, shared, "Freyja is very happy and the sweetest cat. She purrs all the time, she likes to climb everything, and is the cuddliest! She loves her sister Smudge who we had gotten from a shelter in LA. They are always together, you would think they were siblings! Freyja is a very special catand gorgeous so wanted to sha...re and say thanks!" Thank you, Katie, for giving Freyja (and her sister!) such a wonderful life. It looks like you have a very happy and loving home. If you would like to see your adopted Living Free cat or dog featured on our social media, contact our cattery or kennel at: [email protected] or [email protected].

Our cattery has a very special adoption announcement: Sozo, the 3-legged kitty, found his forever home! This remarkable cat has had quite a journey. Sozo was found in the desert with multiple gunshot wounds. His injuries were extensive and it was clear that his front leg was so badly damaged that he need to have it amputated. The shelter did not have the resources to get him the surgery he needed, so Living Free jumped in to do what we could to save this special guys life. T...hrough the help of our incredible supporters, we were able to provide Sozo with the necessary medical treatment and surgery to save his life. While he did end up having his front leg amputated, he recovered quickly from his injuries. One of the best things about this kitty is his wonderful, sweet, and happy personality. Throughout his entire ordeal he was purring, friendly, and curious about all these people who went to such great lengths to care for him. Sozo will be enjoying life with Ealena, Tyler, and a lizard sister- who also only has three legs! We are so thrilled that Sozo has found such a great home. We wish you all a long, happy, and healthy life together.

In July of 2020, Living Free rescued 5 Pomeranian mixed dogs. These poor pups were rescued from a hoarding situation. Their fur was matted and filthy. They were scared, shaken, and overwhelmed when they first arrived. With a little TLC, all 5 dogs transformed. The first dog to come out of her shell was Nadia. She was the first to really seek out touch and affection. Through her confidence, the rest of the group started to relax and open up. Nadia, now named Cami, was adopte...d by a wonderful family. Her adopter, Leah shares, "My son and I can’t remember times without her. She is extremely bonded to me and I just adore her. She is funny, playful, very spunky and very loving. My son loves playing with her and she enjoys her toys and has learned how to fetch. She just cracks us up and my son lovingly refers to her as the homeowner ." We are so happy to hear that Cami is thriving in her new life. We knew she was a special dog and are so grateful she found such a wonderful home. Thank you for giving her such a good life, Leah.

We have some wonderful news from our kennel: The two siblings, Phoenix and Nomad have both been adopted. While they have gone to separate homes, these two dogs hit the jackpot with their new families. Phoenix was adopted on 1/31/21 by Marzbed Margossian of Los Angeles. Aside from being a constant companion for Marzbed and his parents, Phoenix will also enjoy long hikes every weekend in the large park right next to her new home. ... Nomad was adopted 2/2/21 by Frank Bonniwell of San Diego. Nomad has joined a happy, active family. Frank has already shared that things are going extremely well with Nomad and that the whole family absolutely loves him. We are so happy for Phoenix, Nomad, and their new families. Congratulations! We wish everyone a long, healthy, and happy life together.
