Just in case you haven’t heard about the importance of Vitamin D and your Immune System right now..Yes, Vitamin D deficiency is found ALL THE TIME in my patients who life in the desert FULL TIME! Living in one of the sunniest places in the world doesn’t protect you from Vitamin D deficiency. For our populations that are of highest risk of respiratory infections, such as our elderly, chronically ill, immunocompromis...ed, and people with darker skin tones, Vitamin D sufficiency is crucial. Adequate levels of Vitamin D3 = minimum of 30ng/ml. Optimal levels= between 50-80ng/ml. Ask your doctor to test your level of Vitamin D3. Importance of Vit D3: Immune booster/ Protects against respiratory infections!!!! Essential for healthy bones Protects your heart Helps pep up your mood Reduces the risk of cancer and autoimmune disease Reduces joint and back pain The best ways to get enough Vitamin D: 1) Full body sun-bathing in the morning for 15 min. 2) Eat cold-water fatty/oily fish, mushrooms, and dairy if tolerated. 3) Vitamin D3 supplements- 5000-10,000iu/dy as needed. Life Tip #1- Do not break your fast with fast food or a steak dinner! Many people are considering or have already jumped in with both feet into the fasting lifestyle. Fasting can be daunting to try without some idea of what #lifehacks exist to make your life easier during the fasting time window. It is also a great idea to prepare for how you will end the fast. Taking as much time to plan the last day will pay off in big dividends! Your entire body will be grateful. So what d...o you do besides EAT to break a fast? The answer depends on how long you fast for! Shorter fasts of 12-24 hours are usually no problem. Your stomach and GI tract can manage this length of time well. For the majority of fasters, resuming your previous diet works just fine. But make no mistake, this short but brief time without food packs a powerful punch to attaining your health goals and can help create cellular miracles at the mitochondrial level. What about coming off of a longer fast- for example, a Prolon 5 Day Fast-mimicking diet or a 36-72 hour water fast? If you have any medical conditions, it is highly recommended to be under a health care professional’s guidance. However, for a generally healthy person, here are some suggestions. Start off sipping a morning cup of mineral-rich bone broth with a pinch of pink sea salt. For lunch, add some fermented type foods, such as sauerkraut, tofu, or kimchi, and maybe some avocado to the broth. For dinner, try light veggies soup or steamed vegetables with olive oil on top. After 24 hours, start introducing small amounts of easy to digest protein, such as fish or chicken, to cooked veggies. It will be tasty as well as easy on your stomach. Eat light the rest of the day and congratulate yourself for doing a fast! #wellnesswednesday #prolon #prolonfmd #fasting #intermittentfasting #fastmimickingdiet #nutrition #reset #longevity #weightloss #fatburn #ketosis #healthylifestyle #instahealth #instawellness #wholebodyhealth #supportlocal #telemedicine #health #wellness #livewellclinic #doctor #RealND #NDhealth #laquinta #palmdesert #palmsprings #indio #coachellavalley
