Live Arts Los Angeles 02.11.2020

Ten years ago today, Karen and I took a leap of faith and signed a lease on a warehouse that would become Live Arts Los Angeles. While we didn't expect to be celebrating our anniversary quite like this - separated from our studio and our community - we're still thrilled and honored to have spent the last decade with you exploring, creating, and sharing live art in L.A. We can't wait for the day when we're all back together again!

Fascia In Movement Workshop-Sunday, February 24th, 2019 Fascia isn’t just the latest physical fitness buzzword. Fascia is a fibrous web of collagenic connective tissue, comprising 20% of our body weight. It envelopes our muscles, bones, tendons and organs, and plays a role in movement, wound healing, pain management, body perception, and even health and immunity. Aging, poor posture and injury can deform fascia, resulting in pain or loss of power and agility. The good news is... that fascia can be regenerated and conditioned through targeted exercise. In this 2 hour movement workshop we’ll learn how and when to train fascia for: strengthening joints, stability, flexibility and injury recovery. Suitable for adults of any age and any level of fitness. No dance experience necessary. Put the bounce back in your step. Literally! NEW CLASS STARTING MAY 12th! We have a new class taught by Nani from Cal Arts Hope to see you! Inner Connection African Dance... Bio: Nani is a world-class, multi-talented cultural arts performer. Born into a family of prominent dancers and drummers, he was trained by his father, the late Godwin K. Agbeli, a world renowned expert in Ghanaian tradition. Nani Began performing at an early age, and as a young adult held the position of lead dancer for various cultural troupes in Ghana. For a decade, he served as the principal drum and dance instructor at the Dagbe Cultural Institute and Arts Center, a performing arts, cultural education center in Ghana’s Volta region. In the united States, Nani has taught Ghanaian drumming and dancing and led performing ensembles, notably at Tufts University and Harvard University. Currently, Nani is the Departmental head and Program Director in the MFA program of African Music, Dance, and History at California Institute of the Arts (CalArts). He continues to travel the world, leading drumming-and-dance ensembles at major universities, holding seminars and workshops on traditional African drum and dance, and performing for enthusiastic audiences, as well as leading yearly study trips to his family’s Cultural Institute in Ghana in the summer. Read more Description: Nani Agbeli was born to a tradition and culture where expressing the meaning and history behind each dance movement is very important. As such, Nani teaches you to relate to your soul, creating an inner connection and personality to use in expressing the history through dance movements. Understanding the history of what you are doing helps you express yourself in a way that connects with both yourself and the audience. The class will start with a warm up of stretches and some basic movements of what will be thought in the class, a brief history (first time only) of the specified dance, then progress to the main dance. When you dance, your purpose is not only to get to a certain place on the floor. You must also enjoy every step along the way. This class is designed for people with a dance background, as we will be working on very intricate movements, but also welcomes beginners. Nani makes sure to pay attention to individuals in helping them learn and challenge themselves at their own levels of strength and understanding. The class will end with a gentle cool-down to help relax the body back to normal. Price: $15 Contact: Nani Agbeli [email protected] 8184474475 www.naniagbeli.com
