Just last month we taught MY SIDE OF THE MOUNTAIN to kids who loved recreating young Sam's adventures in the Catskills. Now OUR side of the mountain, filled with memories of our own adventures for 50+ years, is burning out of control. The Santa Cruz and San Mateo mountains are on fire--everything east of the long ridge that divides the peninsula-- the most beautiful places on earth, to our eyes and hearts. Our brother, many dear friends and LitWits families, and our LittleWits teacher Suzanne Andersen have all evacuated. It's so tragic, though surely new growth will come from it someday. We send love and support to all forest-dwellers, including the redwoods and even the banana slugs.
