The DAISY Award program is an opportunity for colleagues, patients or their loved ones to recognize a nurse for exemplifying excellence and compassion. #PLCMT #DaisyAward #ValuesInAction #ProvidenceHeroes "I went to the ER at the hospital for the first time with stomach pain. Not knowing what was wrong, the ER doctor took me i...n and did a CT scan and ultrasound. I was admitted several hours later and Dr. Carlfeld ordered for me to get an x-ray full scan and was told that the surgeon, Dr. Bhayani would come talk to me after. I was taken to pre-op, I met Dr. Bhayani and then went to a 4 and 1/2 hour surgery for a gallbladder that was gangrene. I stayed in the hospital for a week with six incisions and a tube coming out of the right side of my stomach. All the nurses were great. However, Tamra especially gave me excellent care and service and went the extra mile to find my belongings, which were left in a locker at surgery OR. Tamra keep me out of pain and comfortable on my worst nights. She was an angel, who gave me great help and care. To me, she deserves this award. See more

Our Caregiver Spotlight shines on Sharon Sawai, Clinical Dietitian at Providence Little Company of Mary Medical Center San Pedro (PLCMMCSP) since 1999. I began working at PLCMMCSP as a per diem position, following my internship. I am extremely fortunate to have had managers (Nikki Robles, Phyliss Flannigan, Nidhee Batra) that are mothers and understand that family and work life balance are important. They have been extremely supportive, understanding, and caring. Now that ...my kids are grown, I have recently become a full-time caregiver (after 20+ years at PLCMMCSP!). I feel blessed for my supportive husband, my flexible schedule, and the ability to have been home with my kids and be present in their daily activities throughout the years, while working in a field that I love. I like working at PLCMMCSP because of my amazing colleagues and San Pedro’s tight-knit community. PLCMMCSP is a special place, where all caregivers are hardworking and dedicated to their field; where they come together as a team to help with the recovery and healing process of the patients; and where warm smiles and friendly hellos are infectious and are often seen and felt throughout the floors of this very incredible hospital. A fun fact about me is that I love to read, particularly autobiographies.

Our Physician Spotlight shines on Sonia Rebeles, M.D., a board-certified obstetrician and gynecologist at Providence Little Company of Mary Medical Center Torrance (PLCMMCT). As a gynecologist, I focus on minimally invasive treatment options for common women’s health issues such as heavy bleeding, fibroids, pelvic pain and endometriosis. When faced with the need for surgery, my expertise helps women heal and recover more quickly, so that they can return to their daily lives. Our Physician Spotlight SHINES on Dr. Neil Bhayani, a board-certified surgeon, specializing in surgical oncology and complex general surgery. As the director of liver, pancreatic and complex cancer surgery, as well as the director of reflux and esophageal surgery at the Association of South Bay Surgeons, I focus on building and refining the amazing surgical specialists in the South Bay.
