The snow may have melted, but we can't get over how majestic Nola looks in this picture! New and long time supporters, which LTB animal is most majestic to you? We'd love to hear in the comments below!
In 2021, we’re expecting to care for even more animals like Delilah and Blossom, both here at our sanctuary and for others who are still in need of help, hope, and healing. Will you stand with Lions Tigers & Bears in 2021 and renew your commitment as a defender of abandoned and abused exotic animals? If you said YES head here igfn.us/form/-ftyJQ ... And be sure to tag that animal lover in your life!
Despite all that we have endured in 2020, you were there when it really counted. Do you recall a story we shared about two bears named Delilah and Blossom? It was a story of how desperation could have easily led to the destruction of these magnificent animals. Delilah and Blossom were the lone residents at the Little River Zoo in Norman, Oklahoma, following its closure in 2011. The owners of the zoo were in negotiations to sell them to a canned hunt ranch where Blossom and ...Delilah could be hunted and killed... which couldn’t be more heartbreaking or infuriating. But thanks to friends like you, we were able to step in to rescue both bears from a horrific fate, and now, for the past 10 years, Blossom and Delilah have been living their best life here at Lions Tigers Bears. You can help ensure Blossom, Delilah and their rescued animal friends continue to get the best care throughout 2021 by donating today. Your support will help maintain their expansive habitats, a nutritious diet, solid vet care and all the things they need to thrive. To donate head here igfn.us/form/-ftyJQ
Meatball headed into one of his habitat’s caves to get cozy! For those asking, the animals enjoy the temperate climate. Snow is an amazing form of enrichment for the animals. They have warm dens and plenty of hay to stay cozy - and fortunately being in Southern California, the snow doesn’t last more than a couple of days at the most.
Meatball has a forever home at Lions Tigers & Bears, but not every bear is that lucky. Meatball is a wild born California black bear, who was captured by California Department of Fish and Wildlife on August 29, 2012 after his third-strike meddling in the La Cañada Flintridge neighborhood northeast of Los Angeles. The Department has a three strike rule for habituated bears - bears not afraid to enter areas of human habitation. They can be captured and relocated twice, and ...on the third strike, they must be euthanized, or in very rare cases, rehomed to a sanctuary. We're so happy California Department of Fish & Wildlife made the compassionate decision to relocate Meatball rather than to euthanize him and that he can have a forever home at LTB. Help more bears like Meatball have a happy ending and head here to learn how you can help: https://www.lionstigersandbears.org/take-action

Netflix’s Tiger King: Murder, Mayhem, and Madness, falls short of depicting the vicious cycle of breeding and animal suffering. Stop letting people like Jeff Lowe own tigers. Read the full article below by Lions Tigers & Bears founder, Bobbi Brink on the dangers of cub petting and roadside zoos.
The king of the jungle Bakari! Did you know that after tigers lions are the biggest cat in the world? Male lions can grow up to 10 feet in length and weigh up to 550 pounds.
"Online videos from roadside zoo owners create the false impression that it’s safe to play-fight with adult big cats. It’s not." The "Big Cat Public Safety Act, a bill that aims to federally prohibit commercial breeding, public handling, and ownership of big cats as pets, could make a difference in curbing big cat ownership and backyard breeding in the U.S., protecting animals and people alike." Read the full article below of the terrible situation that roadside zoos put anim...als in and how they are the ones that suffer in the end. To learn more about the Big Cat Public Safety Act, visit our Advocacy & Legislation page over at https://www.lionstigersandbears.org/advocacy-and-legislation We encourage you to call and email your U.S. representative now and urge them to push for the passage of this crucial piece of legislation. If your representative is already a co-sponsor of the bill, please take the time to thank them for supporting it.

Splish splash Cherry Bomb's enjoying a bath today! Do you know what the large hump on a Grizzly bear's shoulders is used for!? It's actually a powerful muscle that helps power their forelimbs through their daily routine. Grizzly bears are mighty diggers - hence their long claws - so this mighty muscle helps them dig with ease in rough wilderness terrain.
Our animal keeper staff and volunteers had an important safety training today. We continuously conduct safety trainings on different topics, because you can never have too much training when working with exotic animals. Today’s session was dartgun training and a refresh on our emergency escape protocol. LTB works side by side with first responders all over the country and at times we need to dart animals to get them out of bad situations as well as sometimes it is needed for medical procedures We take great strides to ensure the safety of our animals, staff, volunteers and visitors.

A message from founder, Bobbi Brink: I want to thank everyone who has reached out, wrote to us, or posted after learning about the tragic loss of our tiger, Maverick. I sincerely appreciate each and every one of you. Your kind and supportive words mean so much to me, and our staff and volunteers, as we all grieve the loss of our beloved Maverick. I know it will take some time to work through the sorrow that we are all experiencing, but wanted you to know that hearing from you all means so much to me, and to everyone at Lions Tigers & Bears. Thank you again for your thoughtful and supportive messages.

Our 18 year old black leopard, Shadow, has been feeling under the weather. We called our veterinarian, Dr. Sadler, and he came out to anesthetize Shadow to evaluate him for progressive weakness in the hind end which began over the last several days. Dr. Sadler states "Shadow has multiple long term health issues, including skin disease and leaky heart valves, and he has an abnormal gait from previous declaw surgery. He also suffered a mild stroke after his last anesthesia in 2...017, which he recovered from, but we're aware of the high risk of doing this procedure tomorrow. Despite these risks, his current clinical signs are severe enough that we want to make sure that we are providing him the best quality of life we can and ensuring he doesn't have any discomfort. We're taking as many precautions as we can, but in the end it is still high risk given all his health issues." Dr. Sadler took full body x-rays of Shadow and also conducted a sonogram and blood panel. We are awaiting results from these tests. Shadow is in recovery and being closely monitored by our team. We'll be sure to keep you informed on his condition as we know more. Shadow was rescued in 2016 from a defunct sanctuary in South Dakota as part of a massive rescue effort of more than 300 animals. You can learn more about his story here: https://www.lionstigersandbears.org/our-ani/leopards/shadow
