Hey folks, Harvey here, Introducing Dr. Charles E. Bentley! Dr. Bentley graduated from the Chicago College of Dental Surgery in 1887. He is most known for his role as director of the National Negro Medical Association, the largest local dental society at the time, as well as his leadership in the Chicago branch of the NAACP. Dr. Bentley is known as a public health pioneer; he was an advocate for providing dental exams in schools and was the secretary of the Provident Hospita...l in Chicago. It is thanks to Dr. Bentley, as well as many other dentists' humanitarian vision of dental care that gives us an understanding of the importance of oral care coinciding with general health. She graduated from the University of Michigan in 1890 and practiced in Chicago. Not only was she an outstanding Dentist, she was an active member of the community, serving as the VP of the Professional Women's Club of Chicago and the Phyllis Wheatly Club; a group that maintained the only Black women's shelter in Chicago.
