I give abundant thanks to writer Maxine Hong Kingston. In 1979 I read her book Women Warrior and was astonished by the writing and moved by the stories crafted ...from secrets about ancestors. She gives voice to the silent ghosts in her family. Although I did not start writing fiction until 1985, I felt her influence in giving voice to those who had been silenced by secrets, shame, suicide, or displacement in another country. AARP
