Interesting info about how yoga may help with incontinence The aftermath of childbirth and the age-related weakening of the pelvic floor muscles gradually undermine the health of the pelvic floor. Not surprisingly, pelvic floor disorders like incontinence, prolapse, and pelvic pain are increasingly common after the age of 45. Much can be done to reverse this trend with exercises to balance and strengthen the pelvic floor muscles. Unfortunately, however, the most common ...approach to pelvic floor toning - i.e. the Kegel exercise - treats the issue as one-size-fits all. Worse, it is often instructed incorrectly because of limited insight into pelvic floor anatomy. There is now growing evidene that yoga can offer an alternative approach to relieving pelvic floor disorders. A recent study featuring a protocol of yoga poses designed by Leslie Howard and Judith Hanson Lasater, for example, showed as much as a 74% decrease in the incidence of incontinence in the yoga group.
