ABOUT ASH WEDNESDAY Dear Friends, Happy Shrove Tuesday!... On this day before the beginning of Lent, I would invite you to join me at 9AM tomorrow for an Ash Wednesday service from the Upper Room Chapel in Nashville, TN. (It will be available at your convenience any time after 9 AM PST, if you cannot watch then.) The service will be led by Beth Richardson who is the director of prayer and worship life at The Upper Room. I have used a number of her books over the years for my daily devotional time, and most recently her book Christ Beside Me, Christ With Me: Celtic Blessings. The ashes of Ash Wednesday take on a special poignancy for us this Lenten season as we are now almost a year into a pandemic where we have had all too many reminders that we are ashes to ashes and dust to dust. However, may we find comfort in knowing that we are in this together and that our faith tells us that God is loving us and guiding us every step of the way. I hope that some of you can worship with me at 9AM in the morning and that others can participate at the time of your convenience tomorrow. This Wednesday's Catch-up is with our own Youth Pastor, Robbie Frederiksen. Robbie leads youth group every Sunday night at 7pm and Bible studies on Wednesdays at 7pm. He also co-leads a young adult prayer space on Wednesdays from 8pm-9pm with other young people from around the conference. One hundred and one of you took the time to fill out a survey from the Staff Parish Relations Committee (our personnel committee) at the end of last year. In answering the questions, you provided important information for the bishop and cabinet as they do the work of discerning a good pastoral match for our congregation. The survey also revealed valuable insights into our congregation as well. We owe Ray Owen and Jennifer Stagnaro, co-chairs of our Church Council, a big thank...s for all they did to collate the survey results and then analyze them. In January, the survey results and analysis were presented first to the Staff Parish Relations Committee for review and refinement and then to the Church Council.
