LeukoLab 04.12.2020

2020 has been a challenge for everyone, to say the least, and LeukoLab is no exception. This year, we saw fewer donors coming through the door, and understandably so. Our world is collectively facing a tragedy that comes unparalleled in our generation, and our country is fighting battles of our very own with social and civil unrest, all within the election year. Through it all, we’re grateful for the support of our donors each and every day. Some donors share what donating... with LeukoLab means for their family and their lives, and we feel so honored to be a part of that. We will continue to show up for you as you continue to show up for us, for researchers, and for science. We are grateful that we’re in this long race to find the cure for medical diseases, together. Happy holidays to you and your loved ones. From, The Donor Care Team

Donating blood for research is an opportunity to give back to science while earning compensation for your time and effort. But how does it all work? Our newest donor, Ted, walks us through his experience as a first time donor. It starts with completing a 5-minute online screening form here: https://web.allcells.com/GetScreened #DonateForResearch #StemCellsSaveLives

A quick #TipTuesday for blood donors: did you know that one of the most common reasons why our donors fail their on-site screening and collection appointments is due to lack of hydration? That's why we recommend our donors to start hydrating 72 hours prior to their appointment, with at least 64oz of water each day. Ample #hydration supplies fluid to your veins allowing for easier access and helps improve overall blood circulation throughout your body!

Over a month after re-opening our doors in Alameda, the team is still going strong! We're continuing to exercise safe social distancing and extensive sanitization practices to keep our donors and our employees safe. All donors are pre-screened for COVID-19 via phone, then undergo temperature checks on-site. And, we ensure each donor is protected with a mask throughout their appointment!

For National #NursesWeek, we typically like to celebrate our clinical staff with snacks and sweets as a thank you for everything they do. This year has been a bit different, given the circumstances, but we couldn't miss this opportunity to say how grateful we are for our incredible Donor Management staff in both our Alameda and Quincy offices. This has never been a more challenging time to be a nurse, and we're so grateful for the sacrifices you make to keep the rest of us safe. Cupcakes and party to come...we promise!

Our Quincy Team working hard to ensure our facility is safe as we work to re-open our doors to donors again on May 20th! Extensive safety measures throughout our facility and ample training to our clinical staff are only some of the many actions that have since been put in place with donors in mind.

This week's Donor Spotlight has been donating blood for 25 years (including 5 years and counting with AllCells-LeukoLab) so to say he's a veteran is an understatement. Thank you, Michael - your dedication to science does not go unnoticed! . . . .... . "It started with this understanding that much of the material goes to research facilities for cancer, diabetes, and autoimmune diseases. At the time, there were numerous facilities sourcing from LeukoLab on a global basis, and so it sounded like a well worthwhile organization to support. I donate to support cancer research and, although there's not a huge history of that in my family, I have friends and acquaintances that have become subject to the disease, and it just seems like one way to help progress their remission. I've gotten to know some of the people [at LeukoLab] quite well. I have a kid who's in the boy scouts, and one of the young ladies here have sons who are, too. The director is someone who I actually see locally, and some of the [staff] are from the immediate community, which I'm very familiar with. [Donating] is a habit now. I've done over ten bone marrows; I'm in the double digits. Although I don't know what the impact is overall, I think that the efforts and the bigger goals at hand are where you need to put your sights on. You know, if you're helping cancer research or diabetes which affects a lot of people, that's what my goal is and I do feel fulfilled on that. I've donated for over 25 years, and this is probably the best place I've ever been. This place is great - the positive experience with the people here has been very professional, very capable, very uplifting." Lastly, we asked Michael what he plans to do with his compensation: "I spend on my kid, actually. It's our fun money to do things - sometimes it's a game, sometimes we do something. He's 13, so anytime I donate, I go, "Hey, what do you wanna do?" - Michael, donating since 2014 #WhyIDonate #MyLeukoLab #DonateforResearch #blooddonor #blooddonors #donorstory #donorstories #bonemarrowdonor

Due to the mandatory shelter-in-place order announced for Alameda County along with several other Bay Area counties in response to the COVID-19 pandemic, AllCells-LeukoLab has temporarily suspended operations and all currently scheduled appointments through April 7 will be canceled. Although this situation is out of our control, we sincerely apologize for any inconvenience this may cause. We understand the compensation from our research studies is something many have come to ...rely on. We are closely monitoring the recommendations put forth by the CDC and public health experts, and hope to open our doors again as soon as it is deemed safe for our donors and employees and their families. If you have any questions or concerns, please email [email protected], keeping in mind there may be a delay in response as we will have limited access. Thank you for your ongoing support of our donor research program. We hope that you stay safe and stay healthy. Regards, AllCells-LeukoLab Donor Care & Management
