Teach your dog to be separated from you at times during the day, otherwise when you constantly allow your dog to follow you around, you run the risk of creating an over anxious dog who will struggle when you leave or your out of their sight.

Does your dog lead you or do they follow your lead on the walk? The leash walk is important in your dog’s routine and can show you where you are in your relationship with your dog or where you may have gaps that need to be addressed or taught. The walk should be where your dog goes at your pace by your side with a nice, relaxed leash. Your dog should be tuned in and focused on you, the walk, and no other distractions going on around them. ... This doesn’t mean they can look around on the walk just as long as your dog doesn’t go into arousal overload or reacting to everything in sight. The other component of the walk will be what you allow before even walking out the door. Do you allow your dog to be too excited all over the place or a calm dog who will better pay attention to your direction. Remember, what you allow is what you will get. The small moments matter! Having your dog be calm when exiting the crate, putting the leash on your dog, stopping at the door with you before exiting out-all this will determine how the walk with go. The best thing you can do is go out for a walk, try these tips, and see where you are at with your dog and your relationship with them. Happy walking! If you need help the walk, reach out! Clover is back for his week long boarding stay where he will get daily walks, social fun time with my dog pack, and we do some refresher training on some tiny little gaps we need to address that he needs some work on, but overall his owners is thrilled with his progress and being able to enjoy him in the home and outside the home. Especially going on off leash adventures! Fun! Clover is always a joy to have here with us and fun to work with! Stay tuned for more pics and videos of this boy!

Believability is everything when it comes to communicating to your dog. No matter if you’re giving your dog a command or a consequence, you have to be believable in order for your dog to understand exactly what you want or don’t want from them. For instance, if you’re asking your dog to do a ‘Down’ command(and they fully understand what to do), you will want to be neutral in your speaking tone(always) but also say the command ‘Down’ as one word without extending the letter...s out as you say it in order for them to believe you want them to do the command. If you say it like this-Doowwwnnn then your dog will have a hard time believing you want them to really do just that. They’ll most likely blow your commamd off and not do it because you’re saying it as more of asking the dog a question than telling them what you want them to do in that moment. Your tone, your energy, your body language and how you communicate to your dog will determine the outcome on how well they respond to what you want or don’t want from them. Will they listen and follow direction or will they blow you off? When you stand in leadership for your dog by being believable and consistent on a daily basis in the communication you give them each and everyday, your dog will give you the upmost respect you deserve. #dogtrainingtips #losangeles http://letsgok9training.com for more info!

Sebastian learning Place Command today. We’re working on teaching him the boundary setting of the cot so he understands he has to stay put and not follow me as I walk past the cot or break command. Today is the first learning phase of this place command and it’s okay if he makes mistakes. This allows him to learn what I want from him so he can process the information and make good choices to stay on the cot as I start to test him by walking by, around, or past the cot as a d...istraction. Once he fully understands the boundary setting without breaking from rep after rep and testing his impulse control skills, we then can move onto building up duration time and going into a more relaxed state of mind. http://letsgok9training.com for more info on creating a healthier relationship with your dog.

Taking your dog out to proof their skills is key to seeing where they may be gaps in your relationship with your dog and how well they take direction from you. Questions to ask yourself: Are they really paying attention or listening? Do they really understand what you’re asking of them to do or what behaviors you want from your dog. ... Took my boys to the beach yesterday and found these rocks to do Place Command on while using the distractions of people, kids, being thrown, and ’s nearby. I really wanted to see how well they could control their impulses while so much was going on including the big waves hitting the rocks behind them. It was a great opportunity for me to see where my dogs are in that moment and where I may be letting things slide that could contribute to them wanting to break, being ansty, or having moments of bratty behaviors. With that said, I can see where I need to clean some small moments up and not allow or give in for them to continue if I don’t want to see any behaviors from my dogs I don’t like. Do you see areas where you could communicate better with your dog? Or perhaps clean up the small things you may be letting your dog get away with? Maybe even go back and reteach them what the rules and boundaries are in the home and outside the home? Or making sure they really understand what behaviors you want from them? Is the Place Command solid with no breaking of the command? Can they hold a long duration with distractions around? This can be a great opportunity for you to see where you stand in your relationship with your dog? Are you leading them or are they leading you? http://letsgok9training.com for more info!

If you have dogs that are showing aggressive behaviors or dogs getting into scuffles and fights in the home, you will need to look at the bigger picture of what is being allowed and not addressed when it comes to the relationship between the human(owner) and dog. Your dog is showing you disrespect when you disregard the smaller stuff that leads up to the bigger moments of multiple house dogs fighting or showing aggressive tendencies towards you, family, and guests. When you... teach your dog what No means, they learn what they can’t get away with or can’t do anymore and in return they will start to show you more respect with making better choices when you’re consistent and accountable for their actions. #dogaggression #LAdogtrainer http://letsgok9training.com

CHAPO walking nicely on leash. This was from the other day. When you slow your pace down on the walk, your dog learns to focus on the task at hand which is to heel nicely by your side than to be ahead of you where they would want to focus on everything else around them. This allows the dog to think about what they should be doing with your guidance and only focus on you and the walk. By doing this you can then challenge to see if your dog is tuned in with you by going diff...erent paces from slow to fast to normal and mix it up! The walk also shows you where your relationship is with your dog. To see if your dog is tuned in, the dog will follow your lead and walk with you than wanting to pull ahead or scanning for any triggers that they may get excited about or become reactive to. When you provide direction, guidance, and leadership- you create a better human and dog relationship dynamic of trust and respect with a dog who will want to listen to you and make good choices every time! It’s up to YOU to show them the way and build that healthier relationship with your dog by standing in the leadership role. Trust me, your dog will thank you! And you’ll have a dog you can enjoy! http://letsgok9training.com for more information on our programs and packages.

Poor behaviors will continue from what you ALLOW from your dog. If you want change in your dog’s behaviors, you have to be willing to change the way you do things and what you allow from your dog in order to see a difference which will create better manners from your dog. #dogtrainingtips... #losangelesdogs #LAdogtrainer Visit: http://letsgok9training.com for more info or message us!

Double Down is when your dog lays their head down on the bed or cot and not focusing on anything then to be calm. When a dog has their head up while laying on the bed, they’re still in a mode of staying alert or anxious like this girl, El usually is. So when we get her to put her head down, she can go into a deeper relaxation state and not have to worry about what is going on around her in the moment. By not allowing your dog to stay in a repetitive cycle of anxiety or bein...g on alert, your dog can make better choices with your guidance and direction to keep them in a calmer frame of mind. When we give our dogs direction, they can focus on what we want from them than to be left to figuring it on their on. A dog with a calm mind is a much happier dog in the long run of things. Place Command training with Kobe. The I need you to turn off and calm your brain down and be still command. Puppies can be all over the place where they’re wired with energy and running all over the house causing chaos and havoc. The thing is, if we allow them to do as they please and give no direction or guidance, we cannot expect our puppies to make good choices where instead it leads them to getting into things they shouldn’t be, becoming destructive in our home, or do...ing things like barking out the window, and so on. When we teach puppies and dogs how to live in our homes with rules and boundaries, they then can learn how to have good manners and better choices making with the consistency we provide them with teaching what we want and don’t want from our dogs. This doesn’t mean you can’t let your puppy be a dog and have fun with them, but their needs to be a balance of structure and teaching your puppy to be still. When we do so, our dogs have a calmer, clearer mind and understand the importance of relaxing and not reacting. This also teaches them to have impulse control and to be independent from us which will prevent creating unwanted behaviors like separation anxiety. Dogs need a healthy state of calmness. The same applies to us, if we’re stressed, angry, adrenalized, we cannot make good choices when our heads are full of chaos too! To keep the peace in the home, have your dog be still and relax in a boundary setting like a dog cot or bed during parts of the time while you’re home. http//letsgok9training.com for more info!

Kobe has been doing fantastic since he’s been here. We’ve gotten him on a good routine for his potty training with calming him down when he comes out of the crate because he can get pretty spastic. Now that his routine is pretty solid with potty training, crate training, addressing the whining/barking in the crate- we can now work on his basic obedience commands. When it comes to teaching obedience commands like Sit and Down, it can be hard for a young #puppy to have focus ...on you and a good attention span when they’re just wild, full of energy and curiosity to everything. So I slowed Kobe down beforehand by putting him on a leash and letting him pace around while holding the leash until he calmed himself down on his own and then came over to me where he sat and looked up at me. I then knew we could start training becsuse he was more clear headed with him self calming himself down when he couldn’t have free roam to just do as he pleases which would cause him to stay in a chaotic, wild man state to run all over the house and get into things he shouldn’t. By teaching him to self calm himself down he will be able to take this as he grows up and learn to do this on his own when he gets in a frenzy state with the supervision and guidance from his owners as needed. With all that out of the way, we now had focus with Kobe to use his midday meal food as a lure to teaching Sit and Down commands. Once he caught on with a few reps, I then used just verbal and hand motion for Down especially where once he downed, I rewarded with his food. I then rewarded him with food when he stayed in a Down command for a few seconds and building up the time to a minute each time I asked for a Down command. And then rewarded with food each time. The goal will be to ease out the food the more we work on it so he doesn’t always expect food every time he does a command or what I ask of him to do. Kobe is one smart boy who catches on quickly. So proud of him! #puppytraining #losangeles #ladogtrainer http://letsgok9training.com for more info!

Exercise only will only tire your dog out for short periods of time. Mental stimulation will help calm your dogs mind down to stay still and relax. Your dog needs a balance of both. ... Exercising your dog to only drain their energy will leave a dog becoming tired for short periods of time and then the dog will regain energy back to driving you mad if they haven’t been provided enough structure or given direction to make good choices throughout the day. When it comes to your dogs energy, you still need a balance of physical exercise to get them moving but also to release their energy with activities to fulfill their drive instincts which would be like a job for them to do and where they can feel accomplished by going through the motions whether it be tug, agility, bite work, herding, and so on. Will all depend on the breed of dog you have and what will be best suited for them. The other part is mental stimulation known as state of mind by calming the dogs mind down so they can fo into deep relaxation. This will help to have a dog being still in one spot while calming their minds down so they can be clear headed to make good choices instead of being in a constant adrenalized, anxious, on alert, reactive, or nervous state. To have a balance of both, you’re able to turn your dogs drive on to work them with fun activities you both can engage in and enjoy to help better your relationship but also balance it out by turning them off with calming their minds down where when you do allow your dog to have freedom in the home(or outside the home), they can be in a clearer state to making appropriate choices with your provided direction. Win, win for both you and your dog! #dogtrainingtips #LAdogtrainer http://letsgok9training.com for more info on our programs and packages.
