Legato is pleased to announce the introduction of our first Practice Techniques and Performance class, conducted by our wonderful violin instructor, Dr. Su Yin Chan. The program is open to students of all string instruments, and will be immensely valuable to all participants. Please see our course description below, and contact us to enroll, as space is limited. Do you feel you don't have enough time to practice each week? Would you like to learn how to get better in a shorter amount of time? Do you need.... PRACTICE (TECH) SUPPORT?? In this group class, students will be able to get immediate feedback and advice on their personal practice in real time from an experienced instructor. Students will practice in separate breakout rooms on Zoom, and will be visited by the instructor twice in the hour-long class. In each 15-minute session, the instructor will guide the student in multiple successful ways of improving a certain passage that they are working on. Not only do these sessions ensure that the student is practising correctly from the start, it also sets them up to be more consistent with their practice goals, overall leading to a more successful musical learning experience. Dr. Chan is a violinist and teacher of distinction, and this is a wonderful opportunity for any students interested in studying violin or viola to be in the presence of a highly qualified and experienced artist. Please get in touch to arrange a trial lesson with Dr. Chan! _____________________________________________________________________ Malaysian-born violinist Su Yin Chan holds a Doctorate of Musi...cal Arts in violin performance from Boston University, studying with Bayla Keyes and members of the Muir String Quartet. Over her career, she has performed with luminaries such as Yo-Yo Ma and Riccardo Muti, and on various international stages including Chicago Symphony Hall, Kennedy Center at Washington D.C., Boston Symphony Hall, and Tokyo Opera City. She has been a member of the Civic Orchestra of Chicago, and from 2015-2020, served as Violinist and Co-Artistic director of Portland-based string orchestra, "Palaver Strings", where she performed and curated unconventional musical programs as well as community education workshops. Dr. Chan is passionate about educating the next generation of musicians. She has had extensive teaching experience, ranging from guiding young students in the Suzuki method to the traditional conservatory training at the collegiate level. As a teacher, she inculcates critical thinking and curiosity in and beyond the music lessons in the hopes of students becoming independent learners and excellent problem solvers.
