Sandwich Generation Consulting AKA SANDWICH BITES Bits of insight on issues confronting the sandwich generation.... We've all heard the term "sandwich generation", it was coined in the 1980's and evolved over the years to encompass a wide spectrum of people. Essentially, it refers to middle aged adults caught between caring for their growing children and aging parents. The role often comes with taxing emotional, physical and financial demands which can lead to stress.... In my practice I help families navigate situations that commonly arise in ones' golden years. What people don't know can cost them time, money and stress. I explain the relevant issues, counsel them on their options, cut down their learning curve, facilitate smarter choices and help them avoid pitfalls. I call it Aging Planning & Sandwich Generation Consulting" but really it’s equal parts: problem solving, legal knowledge, practical experience, family mediation, topic education, project management, mom thinking with a sprinkling of common sense and human compassion. Being a practicing attorney in the areas of estate planning, elder abuse prevention, capacity, probate and trust litigation allowed me to gain concrete knowledge on the relevant issues. My perspective broadened thru experience and education. This unique background, understanding and skill set enables me to bring a novel approach to the issues older adults and their loved ones face. Fascinating update on the science of the brain relating to dementia....FYI Dementia is the loss of cognitive functioning - thinking, remembering, reasoning and behavioral abilities to such an extent that it interferes with a persons daily life and activities. Interesting factoid - Alzheimer's Disease, the most common form of dementia, currently afflicts over 5.2 million Americans and the baby boomer population is expected to escalate that rate to double by 2020...when I was in high school and my grandma got diagnosed with it I thought it was called Oldtimers and happened to every person when they got older...glad everyone is better educated today, including me!
