Recently, the California Department of Public Health issued guidelines and a new requirement for all individuals regardless of their vaccination status to wear face coverings when indoors statewide from December 15, 2021, through January 15, 2022. With the holidays come trees, decorations, and twinkling lights. While these items are beautiful to look at, they can be fire hazards. Here are a few safety tips to remember this holiday season: - Place your tree away from fireplaces, radiators, and other heat sources. Do not block doorways or high-traffic areas. - Water your tree consistently to prevent it from drying out quickly. Trim dry branches as necessary. - Check each set of lights (new and old) for broken or cracked... sockets, frayed or bare wires, or loose connections, and discard the lights that are damaged. - Use no more than three standard-size sets of lights per single extension cord. - Turn off all lights when you go to bed or leave your home to prevent a fire.
