When it comes to our California Lemon Law, consumers are equally protected - regardless of what your car costs. It can be a $199/mo. lease on a Hyundai, a inexpensive (or expensive) used car still under factory warranty at purchase, or the purchase of a $209,000 Bentley. The California lemon law is fair for everybody. It's not price dependent. It's WARRANTY dependent. It's also not dependent upon new or used, leased or purchased. So long as it was purchased or leased from a d...ealership licensed by the DMW to sell cars, and it's covered by a factory warranty, it can be a California Lemon Law potential candidate. What our California Lemon Law primarily looks for is repeated documented repair attempts for the same substantial issue/complaint under factory warranty. An "unreasonable" number of warranty repair attempts. How do you know if you qualify for California Lemon Law protection AND free legal representation? If your vehicle is a 2013 or newer (whether currently in factory warranty or not), and has a history of in-warranty repair visits, simply use this link for a free case evaluation. https://californialemonlawattorneys.com/upload-your-repair/ PLEASE NOTE: repairs made under "extended warranties" purchased on vehicles out of factory warranty are excluded from our California Lemon Law, as well as vehicle's purchased "private party". "AS-IS" used cars have no warranty, unless there is remaining time/miles left on the original manufacturer's limited new vehicle warranty, or Certified Pre-Owned warranty.

Buying From Independent Used Car Dealerships - California Lemon Law. Buying a used car can be a difficult experience, as the consumer doesn’t know the background of how the vehicle was driven, how it was maintained (or not), or if it was involved in an accident. Reports such as CARFAX can be helpful, but are far from conclusive. The best used cars end up at major franchise dealers, are inspected, then often sold as certified with a written warranty.... Usually, but not always, the vehicles that end up being purchased (and offered for sale) by the independent used car dealerships are the ones that are out of factory warranty, have no servicing history, are unknown to previous accidents, and more. I call these 2nd string (the major franchise dealers don’t want them). Can you get a good used car from one of these independent used car dealerships? Possibly, but you must do thorough due dilligence (independent inspections) prior to purchase. You start by having a thorough independent mechanic vehicle pre-inspection. Then it goes to a reputable body shop. Then you run a CARFAX report. If the vehicle cuts mustard (passes) these 3 tests, you have a decent chance of getting a good car. The real question remains though- most independent used car lots sell AS-IS, with no warranty. Or they give a near-useless 30 day/1,000 mile warranty with limited coverage. The savvy consumer will bypass all the potential frustration and work (and expense) by simply purchasing what is known as a Certified Pre-Owned Vehicle from a franchised dealer that sells that brand new. They offer it used and factory certified (CPO). For purposes of an example, a Toyota Certified Pre Owned. This would come with a FREE factory (manufacturer) backed warranty. No pre-inspections are typically needed. They come with a CARFAX report. It makes for generally worry-free purchasing. Every major car manufacturer has a Certified Pre Owned program. What’s best for you? It’s up to you. Just remember to protect yourself, or you could end up with If it’s a good car - it’s a Miracle. (Thanks to the historic Trader Vic’s Used Car dealership, that for many years sold terrific used cars to customers of The San Fernando Valley of Los Angeles)
