The jury hung 8-4 in favor of ACQUITTAL on Second Degree Murder. Mr. Blacknell tried the case again this month. Yesterday, a jury returned hung AGAIN on Second Degree Murder. For the second time, a jury failed to convict Mr. Blacknell's client of Murder! The government should dismiss the case, because a jury has not been able to find Mr. Blacknell's client guilty beyond a reasonable doubt in two separate trials. In the event that the District Attorney fails to do what is right, Mr. Blacknell will be ready and willing to fight the case again. This afternoon, Jovan Blacknell secured his most recent acquittal in the case of People vs. Cameron Terrell. This is the 4th consecutive ACQUITTAL in just the last 14 months on cases where his client was facing a life sentence! Cameron Terrell was wrongfully accused of one count of First Degree Murder and two counts of Attempted Murder. 11 months ago, Jovan Blacknell beat an attempted murder with a gang and gun allegation in Torrance, California. He won that case and sent that young man home. Today, he represented the young man’s best friend. He too was charged with an attempted murder. He too was accused of using a gun for the benefit of the gang. A man, his brother and his cousin are all charged in multiple armed robberies of medical marijuana clinics. They are also charged with a count that carries a life sentence, Kidnap for Robbery. The man hires Mr. Blacknell AFTER his preliminary hearing. His brother and cousin have separate attorneys. Mr. Blacknell filed a motion to dismiss the Kidnap for Robbery, which carries life. The motion was originally denied. He renewed the motion at trial and the judge GRANTED the reque...st. As a result of Mr. Blacknell's motion all three men would be spared a life sentence. Now his client simply faced 15 years in prison for Armed Robbery. The trial dragged on for weeks and the judge made several terrible rulings against him. Mr. Blacknell gave his closing argument yesterday morning. The jury has been deliberating since then. This morning the jury returned a verdict of NOT GUILTY on our client but guilty on all counts for his brother and cousin. What a mixed blessing for our client. He gets his life back while his family faces up to 30 years in prison. We did it again! 7 members of a local rap group were charged with weapons possessions. These men have millions of hits on YouTube and have produced several videos and concerts. The police raided a home associated with the group and arrested the men. They also confiscated numerous assault rifles and other guns. Not only were the men charged with weapons charges, the DA took the unprecedented step of charging the members of a rap group with possessing the weapons for the bene...fit of a criminal street gang. They alleged that the rap group is the GANG! They have no territory, no hand signs and no other members. At the time he was charged, our client was facing 8 years. After the preliminary hearing Mr. Blacknell successfully reduced his exposure to 7 years. He then filed a motion to dismiss the gang allegation. The judge agreed that the gang allegation was false and dismissed it. Now the client only faced 3 years in prison. The prosecutor offered our client time served, probation, and suspended time. The client rejected the offer on the advice of counsel. Yesterday the clients were in court for trial readiness. All other men charged with weapons possession received prison sentences. We are in Milwaukee, Wisconsin today supporting the family of Dontre Hamilton. Mr. Hamilton was shot 14 times, including once in the back, after an unwarranted and illegal detention by a police officer in Wisconsin. Mr. Blacknell is lead counsel for the Hamilton family.
