This morning, we assisted two parents whose 5-year-old daughter was killed when she was hit by a car while walking in a crosswalk on Mother's Day last year obtain a default judgment against the driver that killed her in the amount of $262,000. It was overwhelming to bring some closure to this nightmare for these beautiful people, but it will never bring back their daughter. It was a pyrrhic victory, as the driver had no insurance or assets. However, the young parents were eternally grateful to my office and staff as they wept outside the courtroom. Representing any parent who has lost a child is one of the hardest things to do as an attorney, yet at the same time one of the most rewarding.
