We celebrated Oktoberfest last week with German beer, pretzels, and brats! The residents enjoyed traditional music by the Polka Dots and great conversation with friends!

Residents at La Vida Real will dust off their lederhosen and Dirndl and enjoy German refreshments during a socially cautious Oktoberfest celebration. Performers Sylvia and Salvador will perform lively themed music as part of the festivities. The Zest Department has strategically planned small group seating areas to adhere to safety guidelines while promising an afternoon of fun!

If you're looking for inspiration, please look to our resident, Dr. Henry M., who is 100! At the young age of seven, he received the best piece of advice that he ever received to be a doctor. So that’s exactly what he did. After graduating from Washington College, Henry went on to medical school at the University of Maryland and got residency at Margaret Hague Maternity Hospital and Mercy Hospital. He stays active by dancing and does so every chance he gets. His advice to a 20 year old today? "If you’re interested, go to medical school!" He also suggests getting a good mentor.

Residents celebrated Living Creative day with a community string art project! We can’t wait to display this work of art symbolizing how intertwined we are even in uncertain times. We are LVR Strong

In honor of National Live Creative Day, La Vida Real is inviting residents to participate in a community art project. Through the use of embroidery floss, the exhibit will showcase how everyone’s life is intertwined, especially during these uncertain times and the spirit of camaraderie and togetherness found at La Vida Real.

At La Vida Real, small-group fitness classes enable residents to stay active while social distancing. Aqua Fitness returns to the active retirement community, inviting residents to enjoy a low-impact fitness class that yields significant results. Research shows water fitness offers numerous health benefits such as improved flexibility and range of motion. Residents will listen to fun tunes such as Wipe Out and Splish Splash as part of the workout.

La Vida Real has launched a new series, Music & Mimosas, for residents to enjoy live entertainment and refreshing beverages while social distancing. Each week, residents are encouraged to listen to music from the comfort of their balconies and patios. The outdoor concerts feature the area’s most talented performers, and everyone looks forward to singing along to hits from today and yesteryear.

La Vida Real residents have numerous opportunities to continue an active lifestyle or begin a fitness program. Though residents are social distancing, they can still workout from the comfort and convenience of their residences. The Zest Department offers creative and fun ways for residents to stay in shape through virtual, online fitness classes. At La Vida Real, fitness matters!

July 23rd is Gorgeous Grandma Day! La Vida Real is home to many special grandmas. To mark the occasion, residents’ families are encouraged to complete and submit a response card sent via email sharing what makes their grandmother so gorgeous. Responses can be emailed via the SRG Sentiments program, [email protected]. The Zest Department will deliver the completed cards to residents who are sure to be touched by the moving messages.

Although social distancing guidelines remain in place, the nation will come together to celebrate America’s 244 birthday! At La Vida Real, residents are also uniting - while apart - to get into the American spirit. Everyone is encouraged to dress in red, white and blue, and the Zest Department will deliver patriotic leis to be the perfect accessory. There will even be a prize for the most festive outfit. The culinary team has planned a mouthwatering dinner of ribs and other barbecue favorites.

La Vida Real is celebrating all the wonderful dads and father-figures calling the active retirement community home. Even though residents and staff are social distancing, the Zest Department and culinary team want to make the day extra-special. The gentlemen of La Vida Real will receive a Dad’s Root Beer with a custom, easy-grip bottle opener. Later, a delicious dinner, fit for a king, will be delivered via room service.
