Please help the independent contractors, micro business owners, and gig workers get immediate access to COVID-19 relief. I have two small businesses one as a ...contract graphic designer, and one as an Etsy seller. My graphic design contracts have all dried up. I earn very little as an Etsy seller, and the future success of this microbusiness is uncertain. My daughter is also self employed. At this time there is no application process available to us in California. The word is, "they are working on it." The self-employed and microbusinesses were included in the Coronavirus Aid, Relief, and Economic Security (CARES) Act, which was signed into law on March 27. Unfortunately, self-employed people around the country are facing a variety of barriers in accessing CARES relief benefits. From new rules that limit eligibility and funding for Small Business Association grants, to unemployment offices turning away applications from sole proprietors, the promises made by Congress to entrepreneurs are not being fulfilled. Microbusinesses and contractors need immediate assistance to weather this unprecedented crisis. That’s why I'm urging you to share this widely and contact your state’s governor and members of Congress and ask them to pass direct, targeted relief for the self-employed, gig workers and microbusinesses right away, in addition to expediting improvements to the CARES Act assistance programs. Whoa. I haven't been here in awhile. I have been busy designing magazines, newspapers, brochures, ads, etc. etc. etc. I guess I'd better get cracking putting some work up on this page!
