What is it? Big Give is an online fundraising event that began in 2014, giving you and the entire Cal community alumni, parents, students, faculty, staff, and friends the chance to come together to support your favorite schools and programs, and amplify your generosity through awareness and contest prizes. Why does Cal do this? This effort celebrates all the moments of Berkeley by supporting students, faculty, and research and keeping us the premier public university in... the world. From the smallest gift to the biggest, your generosity to Cal holds truly transformative power for campus and the world at large. When is it? Big Give starts at 9 p.m. PT on Wednesday, March 10, and continues through 9 p.m. PT on Thursday, March 11, 2021.

To kick off our segment on elementary and high school Bay Area Artists we have, Leila Proctor, and her piece inspired by the Mexican artist Frida Kahlo. Frida Kahlo was a Mexican painter known for her many portraits. She inspires me because of her message of body positivity and embracing who you are. For this piece, I wanted to capture Frida's essence. I decided to create a self-portrait and used acrylic paints. This piece symbolizes the lack of emotion that I felt at the t...ime. My cat has been somewhat of a guardian angel, helping me cope with this pandemic just by being there. Artist: Leila Proctor Oakland Technical High School, Fashion Art & Design Academy (FADA)

As we shelter at home we're creating altares to remember those that came before us as we invite them into our homes to visit and remind us of our roots. The online exhibition will feature altares made at home by UC Berkeley students who have opened up their homes to share their creations. As we wrap up the final day of Latinx Heritage Month, we must not forget there is still much work to be done. We are asking everyone to make sure you are all voices for change- one of the best ways is to go out and vote. Urge your friends, family, co-workers-anyone, and everyone you can think of- tell them to go vote. Those who just turned eighteen, please register to vote- you now have a say in the future of this country. ... Be an advocate by using your voice- we all have the task of being allies for those voices held down.
Revista N'oj will host a round table discussing on "Decolonizing Art & Praxis in the Time of Covid-19."
