We are honored to recognize the amazing dispatchers here in Lassen County during National Telecommunications Week. Huge shout out to all the dispatchers at Lassen County Sheriff's Office, CHP - Susanville and Susanville Interagency Fire Center for your dedication to our community. :)
National Public Safety Telecommunication Appreciation Week is celebrated during the second full week in April. This year we celebrate from April 11 17th. Th...e celebration is to honor our public safety telecommunications personnel across the nation. This celebration is to recognize all of their hard work, dedication and support to our police officers, fire fighters, ambulance personnel and the public. Our dispatchers handle 9-1-1 emergency calls for help, allied agency assistance requests, coordinate efforts with Caltrans, and provide assistance with general requests from the public throughout their day. It can be a thankless job day in and day out, the voice or call that can easily be forgotten after an incident is over. It doesn’t stop our dispatchers from coming to work every day, ready and willing to provide emergency services. They come to work through inclement weather, massive fires, flooding and any other form of natural disaster. They are highly dedicated and capable of handling any situation that comes their way. Our California Highway Patrol Dispatchers: They are the thin gold line! They are the steady voice over the radio providing every resource needed by our officers. They are the calming voice on the phone, when those in dire need require emergency assistance. They are providers of weather and roadway information to help keep the motoring public safe. They are geographical location masters and will make every attempt to find someone, even if the person doesn’t know where they are. They are always here to answer the call! Helpful tips to the public when calling 9-1-1: 9-1-1 is for emergency use only. If there is no emergency, please contact your local agency via their general public phone number. Refrain from dialing 9-1-1 for pranks for jokes. Tying up a 9-1-1 can potentially prevent or delay someone else from being able to reach a dispatcher to report an actual emergency. Stay on the line with the 9-1-1 dispatcher and do your best to answer all of their questions. All questions asked have a purpose, to help the caller with their emergency and maintain a very important flow of information from the person(s) involved to the police, fire, and/or rescue services needed. Know the location of the incident and approximate timeframe of occurrence. Think of a street, highway or cross street, is there a mile marker near you, where were you travelling from and to, how long ago did you leave from the original location, did you pass any points of interest (type of gas station, business, or public center building name). All of this information will be of great use to your 9-1-1 dispatchers and help provide assistance as quickly as possible. If calling 9-1-1 by mistake, please do not hang up. Stay on the line, verify your name and advise the dispatcher the phone misdialed by accident. Our dispatcher’s are required to verify call backs and to determine if there was/was not an actual emergency.
We found a new way to display our pinwheels for Child Abuse Prevention Month! #ChildAbusePreventionMonth #pinwheelsforprevention
*National Public Safety Telecommunications Week - April 11-17, 2021* Every year during the second week of April, the telecommunications personnel in the public safety community, are honored. This week-long event is a time to celebrate and thank those who dedicate their lives to serving the public. It is a week that should be set aside so everyone can be made aware of their hard work and dedication. CHP - Susanville Lassen County Sheriff's Office
