Last night, we saw a horrific targeted mass shooting in Atlanta, Georgia, in which 8 people, six of whom were Asian American women, were murdered. The LA Sisters vehemently condemn this attack along with the growing and increasingly hateful anti-Asian rhetoric and violence that we have witnessed in the United States. The Stop AAPI Hate Reporting Center released a report covering the past year. The report documents how in the last year alone over 3,800 incidents of anti-Asian... racism have been reported, with a spike of almost 150% in anti-Asian hate crimes in major US cities, including 122 hate crimes reported to date. Anti-Asian bias and violence is not a new phenomenon in the United States. Without question, events such as these are rooted in xenophobic and racist ideologies that have no place in our community. We stand with our Sisters, friends, family, and community of Asian and Pacific Islander descent and will not tolerate xenophobia, racism, or misogyny of any kind. Here are some ways that we all can actively support the Asian, Asian American, and Pacific Islander community: Encourage those who experience or witness acts of hate towards the Asian American and Pacific Islander communities to report an incident through the Stop AAPI Hate website Learn ways to intervene effectively as a bystander to stop anti-AAPI xenophobia and harassment. Be informed about what is happening and why. Be civically engaged in your local community. Support organizations advocating for justice and an end to racism. Support local Asian-owned businesses. It’s on all of us to learn more about our histories and to intercede in racism in all its manifestations.
Los Angeles is in jeopardy of losing its few remaining LGBTQ businesses. Please read this and help if you can. The article contains links to the various businesses’ GoFundMe campaigns.
Happy holidays from the LA Sisters! Whatever you celebrate (or not) and whoever you celebrate with (or not) the Sisters wish you love and joy and peace - from a safe 6ft distance of course! Lots of glittery kisses!!
Sister Ida Nurse, a retired member of the LA House, passed through the veil to be with the Nuns of the Above at the end of November. Sister Ida was a registered nurse, a former Emperor of the Imperial Court of Los Angeles and Hollywood, and one of the most accident-prone Sisters in the history of our Order. We are grateful for the light that she shined on this world. Rest In Peace, Sister. Photos courtesy of Saint Mark Christopher Harvey of Fluxion Studios.
We’ve posted this before, but it bears repeating. In 1982, Sister Florence Nightmare, RN (early AIDS activist and registered nurse, Bobbi Campbell) and Sister Roz Erection (Baruch Golden, also a registered nurse) joined with a team of Sisters and medical professionals to create "Play Fair!", the first safer sex pamphlet to use plain language, practical advice, and humor, and considered by one of the founders to be "one of the Order's greatest achievements in community educati...on and support". In 1999, for the Sisters' 20th anniversary, the pamphlet was revised. The Sisters of Perpetual Indulgence worldwide continue to raise awareness of sexual health; many Orders regularly pass out condoms and participate in events to educate people on sexual health issues. #playfair_spi #worldaidsday #worldaidsday2020 #whatisrememberedlives #sistersofperpetualindulgence #losangelessistersofperpetualindulgence #ladragnuns #dragnunsofinstagram #spi #laspi #lgbtq #actup #actupfightbackfightaids #bobbicampbell #expiatestigmaticguilt #promulgateuniversaljoy See more

With many of us receiving our ballots in the coming days, take a moment to check that you have at least 2 stamps and make a plan to mail your ballot as soon as possible. While ballots can and will be counted if they are postmarked by 11/3, the earlier your ballot arrives the faster it will be processed. In CA ballots can begin to be processed as early as 10/15. #vote #knowyourrights #vote2020 #useyourvoice
