Professor and Episcopal priest Vincent Pizzuto writes about contemplative practice; The contemplative disciple is one who is clothed with love. . . . One meditates, then, not in order to produce a successful meditation but in order to be transformed into an ever more compassionate person. We pray not that we might become mystics but that we might become ever more authentic Christians who embody the love of Christ in the world. We come together to find comfort, courage, spiritual nourishment, and hope. In this hour of time together, we find our common ground. We hurt and heal together while there are fires burning in our communities, along with an ongoing pandemic, racial conflict, and economic hardship. Here is an image from a recent Sunday Zoom Service. For an invitation to Zoom in, please email Pastor Jane at [email protected] Feel free to Share this post and Like us on Facebook.

Passing of the Peace isn't just on Zoom. When you see someone, during this Covid-19 time, from a safe 6 foot distance, pass them some peace. They may not see you, but they may feel the presence of peace. This is what it's all about. www.lsbcc.org

This quilt is titled "God's Love Song" Designed by church member Patti Smith and sewn by many LSBCC hands, this quilt's message is most appropriate now, in light of both Pride month and the call for racial justice--seeing each and everyone as one of God's beautiful people! In Patti's words, "When I see a rainbow, I think of God's beautiful promise given to Noah, and am grateful for God's mercy. It is a reminder to treat others with mercy, love, compassion and kindness. The... cross is to remind us to love one another and forgive one another, as well as Christ's promise of life-everlasting". lsbcc.org Join us for Sunday worship on Zoom.

You may have seen our very own Santa Cruz Police Chief, Andy Mills, on the national news, kneeling with protesters, and now speaking out about pathways to end institutionalized police violence against people of color. Here he is during last year's holiday parade, dancing with Curtis Reliford, activist for Black Lives Matter, good Samaritan, helper to the disadvantaged, the marginalized, the poor, grassroots visionary, my hero. Well, I guess these are two good people, a white man and a black man, dancing in the street together.

A heartfelt message of thanks from Siena House to La Selva Beach Community Church: Siena House would like to thank La Selva Beach Community Church for your generous support, which is vital in enabling us to continue providing a home for pregnant women in need. People like you make it possible for many babies to be born into a safe and loving environment, and for Siena House to remain a place where women can build a foundation for themselves as they overcome the cycles of abu...se and addiction. On behalf of our mothers and babies, our Board of Directors, and our staff, we extend our heartfelt gratitude for your support. Especially all the diapers, yarns and art supplies! What do you suppose that strange, sci-fi story of Jesus ascending into the clouds means for us today? Our text is Luke 24: 44-53, and the question it raises is to what will our lives witness? This Sunday, Zoom Worship. Please inquire with the church office if you would like to join the Zoom Sunday services. Check out lsbcc.org

Here's a dose of joyful baby! During Sunday's Zoom Service on Mother's Day, when we gathered together in our little zoom boxes and checked in with one another, Ranell was baby sitting her grand daughter, Juliet, who was very happily sitting on Ranell's lap, thoroughly enjoying the moment! Thank you Ranell, for inviting LSBCC Facebook crew to see her again, here in this adorable photo where she's happy in Brent's arms. What a joyful, vibrancy! What a blessing she is from Heaven! God is speaking! Her smile brings hope and love!

La Selva Beach Community Church 03.04.2019

The virtue of hope, with great irony, is the fruit of a learned capacity to suffer wisely, calmly, and generously. The ego demands successes to survive; the soul needs only meaning to thrive. Somehow hope provides its own kind of meaning, in a most mysterious way. from Richard Rohr, on Hope and Suffering

Let us sing of your Love!!

La Selva Beach Community Church 07.03.2019

Without meaning to trivialize this holiest of weekends, I often ponder what was going on during that "tween" day between Good Friday and Easter. Much weeping, I suppose. Easter's message of hope rings so much truer this year. Perhaps the blessing of our current situation is the gift of slowing down, healing the earth, considering what's truly important, and a renewed commitment to live more simply when we emerge from the cocoon. Happy blessed Easter, everyone. Jane Daugherty

La Selva Beach Community Church 17.02.2019

Our Easter Service was blessed by Danielle's voice singing Day by Day!

La Selva Beach Community Church 15.02.2019

Jane, Thank you for the Sunrise Meditation. The birds songs were most beautiful and pronounced this morning! What captures my attention in the Easter text, and resonates most deeply with me is that Mary mistakes Jesus as the gardener. Perhaps it is not a mistake. I see Jesus as the tiller of new life, of hope, of cultivating our spirit with renewed energy. As the sun rises to feed us life this new day, so does Jesus rise to fill our hearts with renewed hope.... Jesus is in all things, and takes on many forms! May you be nourished by his presence this Easter day! Love, Kimberly

We can all still sing along; Allelujah!
