A message from Sheriff Alex Villanueva: "LASD attended the BOS meeting this morning to present the Truth Act Community Forum, which fulfilled the requirements a...s set out by SB54. We were also able to report the moratoriums on transfers to ICE, on civil detainers, I had implemented beginning in April 2020, and culminating in my making the moratorium permanent on August 3, 2020, thereby ending the voluntary transfer of inmates from LASD to ICE custody. We acknowledged the Supervisors support of my decision as included in their subsequent motion passed in September 2020. the county should enshrine the current Sheriff’s moratorium on transfers to immigration authorities absent a judicial warrant or judicial probable cause determination into County policy. As Sheriff, I am responsible for EVERYONE'S public safety, and I will not allow an entire segment of the population to be afraid to report crimes to law enforcement. We also ended LA County's practice of selling data on undocumented inmates, and permanently banned transfers to ICE. Special thanks to Coalition for Humane Immigrant Rights, National Day Laborer Organizing Network, and SEIU Local 99 for helping us improve our policy regarding ICE and making these historical changes." Anthony Avalos was tortured and murdered by his mother and her boyfriend (who stabbed another inmate while awaiting trial). The DA’s new directives will remove the Death Penalty. The Avalos family will be victimized once again as they try to seek justice for Anthony! #VictimsMatter

LASD values transparency with the public by engaging in open and honest communication. Last year, members of the community were invited to participate in hands...-on training with our Tactics and Survival unit to promote transparency during critical incidents. During these scenarios, veteran law enforcement instructors recreated high stress scenarios that Deputies experience on a regular basis. Community Members were confronted with several different scenarios including some when a mock firearm or other deadly weapon were produced. During one scenario, a role player stumbled out of his residence while holding his head as if he was an injured victim. A second man exited the residence and approached the community members. Without any warning, he suddenly retrieved a handgun from his waistband and fired several rounds before they even had time to react and return fire. In another scenario, a role player was sitting in the driver’s seat of his vehicle and lifted his leg to reveal a loaded handgun that he was sitting on. The training team pointed out this is one reason why, during traffic stops, Deputies will often direct members of the public to leave their hands on the steering wheel or in plain view. Marquis Diamond, a community representative who attended the training program, shared his experience, Working in the community, we get to see things from the social media side; and sometimes, like we just realized today, that’s not always what’s accurate. So coming to an event like this, it allows us to see the perception from the officer’s eyes. That way when we’re in our communities we get to let them know: let the facts come out first, before we make judgement on how this situation played out. LASD thanks the community members who took the time to participate in these training scenarios.

It’s time for SB55!! @lasdtransit Explosives Detection K9’s are once again helping to keep everyone safe at #superbowl 55 in @cityoftampa. They have been there ...for several weeks now keeping the #fanexperience and other events safe. For years now, #lasdtransitservices has sent our @tsaamerica trained K9’s to assist, along with numerous agencies from around the country, to help keep this normally massive event free from threats. Although this year, the number of in person #fans have been greatly diminished due to the #covid_19 #pandemic, there are still thousands of people, players, and employees to keep safe. Deputies Maus, Whiteside, and Sergeant Drysol, along with their K9 partners, are doing the work that needs to be done! As always, we’ll be there well after the last #touchdown to ensure that everyone gets home safe, as they do everyday for @metrolosangeles patrons. Thanks again for doing it, once again gents! #superbowl55 #onceagain #bettertogether #wekeepyousafe @lasdhq

The majority of #LASD stations have seen a rise in catalytic converter thefts. Cat-converters contain precious metals (rhodium, palladium & platinum). They have a street value of $200-$1K when sold to metal recyclers. Comment below ways you think this crime can be prevented.

COC CALLS FOR RESIGNATION AGAIN! Sheriff Villanueva has lawfully responded to all subpoenas from the COC, and has just recently met with the COC Chair to disc...uss building a better working relationship. A LASD captain, and a subject matter expert when requested, has attended every COC meeting. This meritless politically motivated attack is unsupported by real facts and remains a shameless repeat of the same spectacle played out on September 17, 2020. Despite this political theater, Sheriff Villanueva will continue being the most accessible and transparent sheriff in the history of Los Angeles County. See more

October is National Cybersecurity Awareness Month! National Cyber Security Awareness Month is an annual campaign to raise awareness about cybersecurity. We live... in a world that is more connected than ever before. The Internet touches almost all aspects of everyone's daily life, whether we realize it or not. It's also an easy way to fall prey to frauds, scams and online theft. While cybersecurity encompasses many aspects, Lancaster Station would like to share a few simple safety tips: 1. Use a long passphrase instead of a password. ILuvDeputies$ is more difficult to guess than Deputies123. 2. Use a different password for each account. While this is difficult with so much online activity, it will help keep all of your accounts secure in the event one account gets hacked. 3. Limit what information you post on social mediafrom personal addresses to where you like to grab coffee. 4. Whether it’s your computer, smartphone, game device, or other network devices, the best defense against viruses and malware is to update to the latest security software, web browser, and operating systems. 5. When traveling, stop auto connecting to WiFi. Some devices will automatically seek and connect to available wireless networks or Bluetooth devices. This instant connection opens the door for cyber criminals to remotely access your devices. Disable these features so that you actively choose when to connect to a safe network. 6. Be wary of hyperlinks. Avoid clicking on hyperlinks in emails and hover over links to verify authenticity. Also ensure that URLs begin with https. The s indicates encryption is enabled to protect users’ information. Emails with typos, incorrect spelling and poor grammar are indicators of a scam email. 7. Practice safe web surfing wherever you are by checking for the green lock or padlock icon in your browser bar this signifies a secure connection. 8. Ensure your home WiFi is secured and locked. We could go on for hours about cybersecurity. The world wide web is a great asset for our busy lives and when used correctly, can be safe. Use caution, be wise and follow a few safety steps to keep you and your online identity safe! Sheriff Villanueva Went LIVE on Social Media - 10/7/20 #FactsDoMatter

LASD Metrolink Bureau 03.08.2020

Picture this: You start hearing sirens near your neighborhood. As the sirens get closer, you peek out the window and see a lot of deputies on foot and some patr...ol cars blocking the street. You may even hear the helicopter above or shining spotlights over your home and on your street. You realize, you are in the middle of a containment. What should you do? Containments are set up when deputies believe a suspect is in a specific area. Usually, not always, but usually, containments are established for a felony or violent crime suspect. While this may be scary for residents in the neighborhood, there's a few things you can do to stay safe and help our deputies. 1. Stay indoors. Don't walk outside, don't go up to the deputies to ask what is going on and don't try to get the best LIVE video and expose yourself by walking outside. 2. Lock your doors and windows. Make sure no one can enter your home through an unsecure window or door. 3. Do not open the door for anyone! If a deputy comes to your door, make sure they identify themselves and show you their badge through the peephole. Suspects could be dangerous and willing to do anything to gain entry into your home. 4. Report anything suspicious that you see. No one knows your home, backyard and neighborhood better than yourself! If you know you closed the door to your shed and now see it open, call us. If you see the tarp to your boat pulled back, call us. Tips from residents often lead us to the suspect we are looking for. 5. Finally, be patient. We absolutely understand the inconvenience we place on residents who can't leave or go into their homes during containments. We ask you to be patient with our deputies and dispatchers. Please understand that our dispatchers will not be able to release information such as the suspect's description in the middle of the incident. We value your time and don't take it lightly, and will clear up the containment as soon as possible. While containments in your area may be scary, our deputies will do all they can to keep you safe. Together, we make a great team! #LASD #AV411 #myherowearsabadge Lancaster Sheriff's Station

You might notice #LASD personnel wearing different patches in October, here's why; Since 2016, The Los Angeles County Sheriff's Department has participated in ...the Pink Patch Project to support Breast Cancer Awareness. In 2019 for the first time in the Department's history, Sheriff Villanueva authorized Department Members to wear LASD pink patches on all LASD personnel uniforms for the month of October. The Pink Patch Project is a collaborative effort between the Los Angeles County Police Chiefs' Association and several public safety agencies in Los Angeles County and beyond. These agencies have partnered together to combat breast cancer by raising public awareness and raising funds for breast cancer research and treatment. The Pink Patch can also be purchased at www.lasdpinkpatchproject.com. The proceeds from the sale of these items will directly benefit cancer research foundations

It's October 1st and we celebrate Breast Cancer Awareness Month! Breast Cancer Awareness Month is a health campaign organized by major breast cancer charities e...very October to increase awareness of the disease and to raise funds for research into its cause, prevention, diagnosis, treatment and cure. The campaign also offers information and support to those affected by breast cancer. About 1 in 8 U.S. women will develop invasive breast cancer over the course of her lifetime. We encourage our residents to talk to their care provider and schedule their annual exam. Early detection can save your life. And to our warriors, survivors and family members who have lost a loved one, we are carrying you on our shoulders. My hero wears a badge... and in October, a pink patch. #LASD #AV411 #BreastCancerAwarenessMonth #pinkpatchproject #myherowearsabadge Lancaster Sheriff's Station

Today, Sheriff Villanueva visited one of the #LASD Command Posts for the #BobcatFire & saw the devastating damage this fire has caused. He also met w/deputies w...ho are working day & night to ensure the County of Los Angeles residents are supported in their time of need. LASD is here for you. Among the people he met today, he had the pleasure of meeting a military veteran who lives in Juniper Hills. He showed him his property that he unfortunately lost to this wildfire & shared some wonderful memories with him. Although his home is gone, his spirits were high, and remains positive.
