Burritos and Brews: everyone is a Winner!
Members, and specifically Thursday Night Putters, I'm sorry to report, that long time member Don Sperling has passed away. You may have seen this on the news - they are saying he is the second victim of coronavirus in Sacramento - he was elderly and not in good health, but it is a warning to us all to say vigilant. Don was a regular at Thursday Night Putting, even winning the event a few times. Although he carried a high handicap, he was always in the mix in match play and bu...rned through a couple of younger players in his twilight years. R.I.P Don, we'll toast you when we get back to normal and start Thursday Night Putting in your honor! Added Bonus! Here is a video of Don winning a sudden death Thursday night Putting match. Sound on!
Don Sperling never missed Thursday Night Putting, and at 85 years old participated in many tournaments, including matchplay. We are fortunate to have tipped a brew and shared some laughs with Don.
Land Park Men’s club member now a graduate of UCSC.
Peter Danenfelser Crushed it all day and helped bring home the gold.
This Weekend the Senior Zone was held and two teams are heading to the next stage. Granucci and Rapp along with Bacon and Dannenfelser are going to try and bring back the Cup.
The Dahl-lee playing 4 from 5.
Memberships for 2017 available now. If you are interested in joining this fine club, please contact a member you know and get an application! If you have a GHIN, why would you not keep it at the Cradle?
Chet Davis- shot Maker.
This tourney is about sold out!
The Turkey Shoot is officially in the books. Here, Bob Ricci nails a 7 Wood 197 yards onto # 4. I had a 9 iron in, put it on the fringe in 2 and proceeded to bat it around the hole for a 7!
Burritos and Brews: everyone is a Winner!
Tonight the Men's Club had the last Putting Night of the year. About 35 members came out to compete in the Final Putting championship of the year. Upcoming events include Pumpkin Ball and the Turkey Shoot!
Big Road Trip the 27th. If you have thought about checking out the club, contact a member to sign up for the road trip.
Had a great day at Kennedy track in Napa.
Skins today. We are up to $35 and $29 on a couple holes.
It has been almost two months since gracing our fans with an update of what's happening at Land Park Men's Golf Club. We are are about finished up with the first round of Match Play, with a field of 64 players competing for the coveted Club Champion trophy. The first round has been filled with upsets which will make for an competitive Loser's Bracket. We have had 3 Thursday Night Putting events that feature free food and "refreshments". Craig Marshall, Tom Bacon and Jef...f Blight have each walked away with a healthy winner's share for winning the Putting Night. The Back in Black Tourney was well attended. A true test of golf, players tee it up from the Black Tees. From the black tees, the course is pretty long. Consider this: The first three holes: 190 yard par three, a 435 yard par 4 and and well protected 175 yard par three. Upcoming events include the Road Trip, The Medal Play Championship, more Thursday Nights and the conclusion of the Match Play followed by Pumpkin Ball (Halloween Devil Ball) and the Turkey Shoot.
For years golfers have joked about cutting down the trees on #3. Well, this is no joke, Nature took one of the famed Cottonwoods.
Happy Birthday to our esteemed Handicap Chairman, Gary Tinseth! Those are not his legs, but he was standing nearby during our Putting Night, which was won by Bacon.
Can you smell that? Ahhhhh, the spring air, canopies of leaves and bloom, allergies, NBA Playoffs, MLB, 2nd Saturday, The Masters, Taxes, Little League, Summer Vacation planning and perfect weather. But most of all, we have the Kick Off of Land Park Men's Club: THURSDAY NIGHT PUTTING. It is really hard to believe that we are nearly into May, 2016. Well, that means Thursday Night Putting is here. This is a definite date, April 21, 2016. 5:30 Start time. All you need is a putter, $5 and a thirst. See you Thursday Night, 5:30. It should be a great night!

And the Winners are the teams of Granucci and Raven AND Beveridge and Wyatt. Congratulations. We are sure that you will represent our club with dignity!!!
As of this morning we have 15 teams signed up for the Zone Qualifier that tees off on February 27. Top two teams head to the Pebble Beach area to compete with all the other clubs in our ZONE!
Great 3 Club day!
What three clubs are you going with?
Well, The Sacramento Men's Golf Club is about to embark on a new era. Not only has the membership grown by over 20% compared to this time last year, the percentage of members from outside of the immediate Land Park area has surged, particularly from the East Sac area. The reason for this is simple: Great members, competitive and fun 9 hole tournaments, good food and drink after all events....... and no monthly dues! 18 holes is great, but how many of us have the time? With 9 hole events, you are done by 10:00 AM on Saturdays. For just $85 you can be a member of the most established golf course in the region. Since 1924, Land Park Golf Course has been a place where friendships are forged. Check out: www.landparkmensgolfclub.com for membership information.
Can Roland,LPMGC's net champion, "bring it" this Saturday at the Turkey Shoot?
Well, We have a 2015 Match Play Champion: Pete Covitch. He battled hard to take down Hinkle. Congratulations, Pete! See you and the Pumpkin Ball Event 10-31-15!
Match Play Update: Covitch eliminates Marshall (4 up 3 to go). Hinkel 1 up over Hartzell thru 16. Pictured is Hinkel blasting out of the bunker!
An old friend of mine told me, If you think it's hard to meet new people, try picking up the wrong ball on a golf course. There is a much easier alternative: If you haven’t been to an event this year, come on out and play one or all of our remaining events: Saturday, October 31st : Halloween Tourney... Saturday, November 21st : The Turkey Shoot Thursday, December 31: Burritos and Brews Every year the Turkey Shoot is the event not to miss. The Halloween Tourney will be a three man, two best ball tournament, with one of the best balls being a Pumpkin Ball (AKA devil Ball). Finally, the Burritos and Brew Event was very well attended last year and proved to be a great kick off to the New Year’s celebration. If you are not a member yet, grab a member and get them out to play!
Land Park Men's Club road trip to Auburn Valley. Effort like this gets you in the money. The fact that Mark Rogers actually thinks he can pull off the shot is amusing. Look at the focus!
As Trump would say, "It was Huge!" Thursday Night Putting was very well attended. Everyone had a HUGE time.
Match Play begins this weekend! One of LPMGC's Majors. Can you name the others?
Nice swing, Moraes!
Back and Black Sold out!
A great kickoff to a new season!
Getting ready for Thursday night Putting. You gonna be there?
Came across this recent photo of Tony Thomas hitting his second shot from a very unique position: 15 feet behind the #5 Tee Box.
This last weekend we "shambled" around Land Park. The turnout was solid, so much so that we had to send some fivesomes out. Coming up we have an opportunity to procrastinate on your taxes. April 11th is "BACK in BLACK." This is "Manly" Event. We have Tee times starting at 7:20 AM, running through to 8:30. The Format will be Individual Play. For those that elect to play the Black Tees, they will be competing for closet to the Hole on all par 3's, Long Drive on holes 2 and 5. Payouts for Eagles and Birdies as well.
Congrats to Hartzel and Tinseth for taking 1st and Pantages and McPoil for taking 2nd. This Fantastic 4 is now on its way to Poppy Hills and Carmel Valley Ranch for the Zone Tourney! Nakano and Moraes actually tied the Pantages Pose at 11 under, but in the tiebreaker, Pantages and McPoil, foiled Nakano and Moraes. Loss Gross went to Nakano at an even par, 68. Low Net went to Hartzell.
The Zone is 6 days away. Some members went out for a practice round. Bacon shot a 3 under 65, but still lost $20 to Bisi in a game of Whip Out (putting contest).
Tiger Woods is joining LPMGC. 12 over for the Phoenix Open. Ugh!
"If you think it's hard to meet new people, try picking up the wrong golf ball."--Jack Lemmon I think that if Jack Lemmon was still alive, he would love our upcoming Superbowl THREE CLUB BEST BALL BLIND DRAW because he wouldn't have to make the cut, and he would only need to decide between 3 clubs. In 25 attempts at the AT&T (AKA the Clambake) Jack Lemmon never made the cut. If you are interested in making the cut and you would like to play in the Super Bowl 3-Club Blind Draw and you are not a member of the Men's Club, grab member and sign up. If you are already a member, well, you know what to do.
LPMGC is an official supporter of The Ducks!
Bob Can play! Another rookie striking it like a pro.
Good times by all at The Cradle. Several new members played some great golf. Here you can see Peter Saving double from the hard pan left of the 5th green.
The Mudder event tomorrow, January 10th, will not be to muddy, but the play might be. The first group goes off at 8:50. There are some open spots, so feel free to show up if you are a member or just interested in being a member. See the line up below, and note the tee times and open spots (designated TBD). January 10th Line UP: Jim Margolis 8:57... Charles Schaffer Ryan Tash Montez Pantages 9:06 TBD Ruben TBD David Daily 9:15 Erik Omlid Ainsworth bisi Roland 9:24 Randy Hodge Dahl TBD Bon Smith 9:33 Bob David Tom Bacon Peter D TBD 6 9:42 TBD 6 TBD 6 TBD 6
On New Years EVE we had full field out for the (first annual) Burritos and Brew two man scramble. There was a four way tie for 1st, but after tiebreaker, Modeste and Plant got the big money. Speaking of Big Money, Darrel Woo started off his first day of retirement with his first HOLE in ONE on #7. That was a tough 160 yard shot in sub-zero temperatures with northern wind gusting to at least 25 MPH. Nice Job Darrel!
Happy holidays from Land Park men's golf club.
I was at Riverside Clubhouse the other day and I noticed the trophy on the mantle. If you take a closer look you will see a few Land Park Men's Golf Club Members names engraved. Land Park Golf Club is a well known training ground for competitive golf. Don't forget to get your membership Applications in! We have an exciting schedule of tournaments and events (like the Burritos and Brew Scramble 12/31/14.)
We already have 5 teams signed up for the Brews and Burritos event New Years Eve day. We have room for another six, two man teams. Official handicaps are not needed, the Handicap Nazi will be screening each team. Each team will be provided with a creative method to increase their handicap.
We are almost ready to release the 2015 schedule of events, but in the meantime, Mark your calendar for December 31, 2014. We will be teeing it up for a "Brews and Burritos" TWO MAN SCRAMBLE starting at 8:30 AM New Years Eve Day. Only $22.50 per man. You gotta love it! ... This is a Rain or Shine Event, so if the course is open, and you committed to play, you are playing. And since you are paying, you might as well be playing! Guests are WELCOME. We just checked the forecast and at 0-beer-thirty, it is going to be clear with a slight northerly breeze. So Let us know if you want to play! And save your cash for side bets!
