New Playground at East La Loma Park!

La Loma Neighborhood 14.01.2021

Update on parking at Coffee/Scenic Please use the round-a-bout for parking - if full, overflow parking is available for a limited time in the adjacent private parking spaces, by special permission; short term and long term plans are in the works. See below for details. A few days ago, a few trail user group members met with a property owner representative to discuss the parking situation adjacent to Monterosso Park, located at Coffee & Scenic. Until recently, trail users wou...ld park in the parking spaces adjacent to the round-a-bout. However; we were recently made aware that these parking spaces are privately owned by an investment group that includes the businesses just to the west of the parking area- and that group was starting to enforce no parking in their spaces. This is in response to an uptick in illicit activities that have been taking place in that vicinity and the potential for development on the properties near the parking area. During our meeting we concluded that for the greater good of the community, the no parking notices would be suspended pending discussions on short term and long term parking solutions. In the interim, the property owner asks that trail users use the parking spaces within the round-a-bout first (city property), before parking in the privately owned overflow spaces adjacent to the round-a-bout. We are proud of the relationship and commitment that the property owner has established with the multiple user groups that visit the Peggy Mensinger Trail at Monterosso Park. Please pass this information on to all who may be affected by the change in parking conditions. See more

Hi all: If you get a chance this weekend, be sure to take a look at the Playground under construction at East La Loma Park. What you probably do not know is that we could not have even begun this project without the sponsorship of George Reed, Inc and 7-11 Materials. They were amazing, and they arranged for additional sponsorship from GCU Trucking, ANRAK Corporation, and Interstate Concrete Pumping! Our other major sponsors were: Save Mart CARES Foundation, Ceres Pipe & ...Metal, Modesto Junk Co, Modesto Irrigation District, Mercedes-Benz of Modesto, Modesto Subaru, Collins Electric, Sierra Pacific Warehouse Group, Modesto View, and La Loma Neighborhood. We also had many, many, many more organizations and individuals who either donated in some way to our Gala Fundraiser or purchased a paver or donated their time. To each and every sponsor we are truly grateful. We **hope** to have the Playground open by the end of the year! See more

What a wonderful Love Modesto Day at the La Loma Native Garden! Thank you to all the hard working volunteers who helped spread a ton of mulch. The garden looks great! A BIG thank you also to Rumble Tree Company who provided all the mulch and removed a large messy eucalyptus tree. What great work they did to support the garden! We are grateful for all of the volunteers who gave their time to support this neighborhood project.#lovemodesto.

Our beautiful La Loma Native Garden is helping many pollinators thrive. A variety of native bees are busy at work due to the several late summer and fall blooming plants, like sunflowers, blanket flower, mulefat, and grindelia. If you get a chance take a few minutes to pause on your walk and see how many kinds of bees and other insects you can observe. Some are mimics, like this hover fly that resembles a carpenter bee.

Hey La Loma! This year LOVE MODESTO DAY will be held Sat., Oct. 3. There are so many needs in our community. Please consider volunteering a few hours on this first Saturday of October. One project in our neighborhood is the beautification of the La Loma Native Garden. This project involves spreading mulch, so you will need tools like a rake or shovel. Starts at 8:30 am.

Our GoFundMe page has been repaired! Please visit the link below if you'd like to make a donation. As most of you are aware we have been in the process of restoring the East La Loma playground. Last year Loma Neighborhood raised the funds needed to install a new playground. The park equipment has already been purchased and is now ready for installation. Because of COVID-19, however, we now need to raise additional funds to complete this project. In our original budget we had planned to have volunteers install the play equipment as we did with Moran Estates Park. As this is no longer possible we need additional funds to pay for installation. Please help us achieve this goal!!! http://email.gofundme.com/ls/click

Let's work together to keep the neighborhood clean. If you see litter along a curb please take a moment to pick it up. There are garbage cans at our green spaces and at the La Loma Native Garden.

We had a great neighborhood drive through Wednesday so we could say hello to our neighbors and also raise donation $s for LaLoma park projects! Thanks to Doug Highiet for leading and the amazing volunteer crew that cooked, donated, prepped, iced, blended and served. The burgers were amazing and the chile fantastic. #tasteoflaloma #friendship #teamwork #safedistancing #maskswork @ Highiet Place

Calling all La Loma residents! We need your help. Residents from our neighborhood and beyond have been enjoying and relishing the beauty of our Native Plant Garden. There’s an important detail you may not know about this wonderful space. There is no one getting paid to maintain this garden. It is all volunteers and to be more specific, it is far too few volunteers. We have trash left by benches, sprinklers broken that are going unreported and theft. That’s right, people comin...g and lifting the river rocks right out of the garden that our neighborhood’s donations have paid for. And of course there is the never ending task of weeding. What can YOU do?? If you enjoy the beauty and appreciate that this place exists for you it’s time to take ownership. Don’t be the person who inactively enjoys its’ beauty without ever giving back. Here are some ways you can take ownership and be part of a stewardship community of this special place: 1. Help weed: You don’t need to ask permission. You don’t need to coordinate with anyone. You can help eradicate weeds at your convenience any time. Are you afraid because you don’t know what’s native and what’s a weed? Fair enough! Stick to what you know. If in doubt, let it be. Do you know what Bermuda Grass is? It’s making a very concerted effort to choke out our natives. You can tackle that! If you are still uncertain, contact me (Janelle Shank / Haney) and I will put you in touch with someone who can tell you specifically what needs weeding. 2. Be an active set of eyes: If you see a sprinkle that appears to have a leak, report it. If you see someone that appears to be stealing rocks, approach them and report it. Don’t know where to report? Here’s a good place. Or contacting our La Loma Association’s president, Chris Murphy, would be another place. He’s here on FB, you can message him. 3. Help clean up: Maybe you can’t weed. That’s Ok. Can you purchase a garbage grabber and make picking up trash part of your weekly walk? 4. Donate: And of course we could always use your donations. Contact Janelle Shank (Haney) via FB and she will take your donations! You can donate books to our children’s library. Again, you don’t need to ask permission, just leave books for children to enjoy. Thank you in advance for choosing to help in whatever unique way you can. See more
