Lakewood Little League's Support for Lakewood Community Members As a community organization within the City of Lakewood, the League plans to donate $500 to Project Shepherd this Holiday Season. Project Shepherd is operated by the Rotary Club of Lakewood and the City of Lakewood. As the holiday season quickly approaches, we are reminded of those less fortunate than we are. Over 1,200 individuals living in Lakewood, many of them children and seniors, will not be able to enjoy ...the holidays without the food, gifts and toys that many of us have come to take for granted. With your help, Project Shepherd will ensure there’s enough joy for everyone in Lakewood during the holiday season. Here are five ways Lakewood Little League Members can also help: 1. Make a donation by check: Mail a check to Lakewood Project Shepherd at 5050 Clark Ave., Lakewood, CA 90712, or put it in an envelope addressed to Project Shepherd and drop it off in the utility payment box outside City Hall. 2. Participate in the traditional Teddy Bear Tree Program: Select a teddy bear ornament with the gift wish of a child in need, purchase the item to donate, and drop it off at City Hall or the Burns Community Center before Dec. 7. Teddy Bear Trees displaying the paper ornaments will be available to the public from Wednesday, Nov. 18 to Friday, Dec. 4 at the Burns Community Center, 5510 Clark Ave., and at Lakewood City Hall, 5050 Clark Ave. next to the main entrance check-in table at the Clark Ave. entrance. 3. Participate in the Virtual Teddy Bear Tree and Canned Food Drive online. Go to www.lakewoodcity.org/holidaygiving to: Sponsor a specific child’s gift. Donate a set amount to sponsor gifts and let Project Shepherd choose the recipient. Participate in the Virtual Food Drive by sponsoring 1 to 35 cans, or choose your own dollar amount to donate for food to families in need. 4. Visit Project Shepherd’s gift registry on Amazon at www.lakewoodcity.org/PSAmazon to purchase a gift and have it sent directly to the program. 5. Donate Grocery Gift Cards: Grocery gift cards are needed in $10 increments. Please drop off gift cards to the Burns Community Center, 5510 Clark Ave. Lakewood before Dec. 7. For more information about Project Shepherd and all the ways to help, call 562-925-7512, or visit www.lakewoodcity.org/ProjectShepherd.

2021 Baseball Season Update COVID-19 The City of Lakewood follows the County of Los Angeles Department of Public Health Order of the Health Officer Reopening Protocol for Youth Sports. The current guidelines do not allow baseball games due to it being a contact youth sport. Until the guidelines are relaxed and allow contact sports, we will continue to follow our approved Safety Plan and only offer camp-style baseball programs. You can view the Safety Plan on our website. ... Camps We will likely still be under COVID -19 restrictions into the 2021 baseball season starting in late January. Based on this we are tentatively looking at four possibilities as follows: 1. Skills Camp for conditioning and skills development. This will be a generally age-based group of no more than 10. This will run for 8 weeks, 2 hour sessions. 2. Specialty Skills Camp for pitching. This will be age-based in small groups. This will run for 4 weeks, 1.5 hour sessions. 3. Specialty Skills Camp for batting. This will be age-based in small groups. This will run for 4 weeks, 1.5 hour sessions. 4. Returning to play games. This will only occur WHEN and IF the City of Lakewood gives Lakewood Little League approval to resume baseball. We will provide specific programs, dates, times and cost when we open the 2021 registration. 2021 Camp Registration We hope to open Camp registration on December 14, 2020. There will be no fees collected at that time. This will allow us to gather information for Little League International required for chartering fees and Insurance. When individuals join a Camp, the fees will be collected at the first practice held. 2020 Registration Refunds If you have not requested your 2020 registration refund, you can still do so or you can request it to be applied towards the 2021 Camp. You can also donate it to the League. You can submit your request to our treasurer, Michael Keebler at [email protected]. Thank you for your patience and understanding.
