Lake Pillsbury Getaways 12.05.2021

Hello Pillsbury Families. Michael and I are looking for a few more terrific young adults to be a part of our summer staff for this season at Lake Pillsbury Resort. We will consider part-time and full-time shifts. The most important part of this job is to be a team player and have a good work ethic, the rest is easy stuff. Duties will be store and marina sales and guest services, including pumping gas, renting boats, selling ice cream, stocking supplies and Ice, answering the ...phone and all with a smile. Okay, you don’t have to smile when you are cleaning bathrooms, cabins and dumping garbage, but that would be ok also. Computer skills are a must (like any person under 30 isn’t a wiz on the computer; puts us old people to shame). We will need this additional staffing starting in early to mid-June (depending on one’s school schedule), and will run through mid to late August (again depending on school). Requirements are: Age 16 or older Have dependable transportation to and from the Resort Have a place to stay/live/sleep during your off time (we may have housing available) Be able to lift/move 50 lbs (stocking ice, moving Kayaks) Not be afraid of a plunger, cleanser and a toilet bowl brush Please private message me if you have family or friends that are interested in these summertime positions. Thanks Maryann See more

Thanks to the diligent efforts of some Lake Pillsbury locals working with PG&E, a request was filed with FERC to close the gates early, and they approved!!!!

Rain, snow, rain, snow, and then once in awhile, a little break.

One year ago, I received an email from a Pillsbury regular who had created this great video with his dad (the drone operator). He told me I could share it if I thought anyone would like to see it. It is an amazing video (and great music) which became a hit within the Pillsbury community and beyond, after posting in on the Lake Pillsbury Resort facebook page. The lake’s rise was fast and the outflow over the dam was record-breaking on that day of filming. Fast forward to l...ast week and a much larger storm. Since I don’t have a new video to share, I have also posted the CA Department of Water Resources data graph showing how big this storm was. Last year’s highest outflow was 9K cfs (67,320 gallons per second), and this years to date is 18K cfs. Amazing also is the rise of lake level to an elevation of 1905 ft (with gates open this time of year). That is a 5 ft. wall of water over the dam spillway vs. the 3.5 ft. surge shown in last January’s video. When storms subside, the lake usually settles down to around 1900 ft. until the 10 ft. gates close in the spring. See more

For all those who love Lake Pillsbury but are tired of dirt and all that camping gear, there are now more cabin options available in the Lake Pillsbury basin for you to check out. **Lake Pillsbury Resort has lake front cabins available by reservation up to one year in advance for weekly stays, Saturday to Saturday during summer season. Since they book up early, you can be put on a waiting list for a specific week or cabin style as some do come available each summer. Once the... weekly only booking period has passed, cabins will be available for shorter stays, so be sure to inquire. *If you want a little more privacy in a secluded gated community, a relaxing nature experience, and just a few miles from Fuller Grove or Sunset Day Use and launching facilities, this may be your ticket. A retro 60’s cabin designed after Frank Lloyd Wright’s unique style, sleeps 6, and is a total detox experience; no internet, no TV, just some old classic LP’s, board games, a few musical instruments and lots of family and friend’s bonding time. *Or, go real rustic with super cute classic bungalows that once housed staff and guests of the rich & famous who frolicked at Lake Pillsbury Ranch back in the day. These cabins rent for a two night minimum most of the season. They are in a great location with just a short walk to the local pond, or adventure out and hike the many miles of maintained roads within the community. **If you are good with not being at lake front, but still want an unobstructed view of the lake and the glorious Mendocino National Forest, Hull Mountain, Snow Mountain and surrounding tree lined landscape, all from an extraordinary vantage point, look no further. With a chef’s kitchen, lots of space and all those amenities of home, you will have found your perfect escape. This is a more secluded location high atop a ridge within the Lake Pillsbury Ranch and fully powered by a solar/battery system. You will love the quiet and peaceful experience, and most likely, see more wildlife than people during your stay. http://www.vrbo.com/336397 **To inquire about Lake Pillsbury Resort, call 707-743-9935 and ask for Maryann *To inquire about Lake Pillsbury Ranch, call 707-743-1625 and ask for Amy

We have had an amazing fall and winter so far at Lake Pillsbury. Beautiful fall colors, then big, lake-filling rain, and some winter snow. Thanks to all our guests who have ventured up to Lake Pillsbury over the last few years to vacation at our home and enjoy the beauty of the surrounding Mendocino National Forest. We are so sorry to have blocked out time from our off-season regulars, but we decided to enjoy the house and all its quiet, while watching the changing seasons... for a while. We feel so bad keeping it all to ourselves; well sort of. Okay, really we aren’t just sitting here gazing at the view, at The View. Over the last few months, we have been busy fine tuning and doing a bit of maintenance. We will be ready to open the house in the late spring to share again. One big task already completed; painting the exterior of the house. It being so open to the elements; sun, wind, rain, and snow, it was much needed and quite the project. We love the color and like how it blends in well with the surrounding natural landscape. See more

Cool artsy picture of Scott Dam as the water rises to the spillway and the rain continues to fall.

UPDATE: 10 more feet yesterday, probably going over the spillway as I type, but I can't see the lake as we are in a total white out from snow....Merry Christmas Everyone!!!!

A special video created for us by one of our astrophotographer guests who came to stay last fall and shoot the amazing stars at night. Thanks Ryan @lucidphotostudio.com
