Lake Cleone 06.03.2021

The California Recreation Alliance on behalf of Friends of Lake Cleone just submitted a Community Foundation of Mendocino County "Field of Interest" grant proposal to pay for the design and printing of new interpretive brochures for the Lake Cleone Trail. If we are successful in getting this grant along with the Habitat Conservation Fund grant, we will have the funding to completely finish the Lake Cleone Boardwalk and trail!

We are very excited! Friends of Lake Cleone (part of the California Recreation Alliance) and Mendocino Coast Recreation and Park District applied for a Habitat Conservation Fund Grant in October. We have made it into the final round of the process, with a site visit scheduled for next week. If funded, this will allow us to purchase all the tools and materials necessary to finish rebuilding and rehabilitating the Lake Cleone Boardwalk along with redesigning the Interpretive Trail and Brochure. Keep your fingers crossed that the grant team sees the importance of our project!

Congratulations to John Huff and Kirk Marshall, the two newly elected Mendocino Coast Recreation and Park District board members. Friends of Lake Cleone and MCRPD have partnered to apply for a grant to complete the work on the boardwalk and we plan to collaborate with them in the future! Congratulations gentlemen!

Please keep your fingers crossed! The California Recreation Alliance (Friends of Lake Cleone's umbrella non-profit) and Mendocino Coast Recreation and Park District have collaborated to apply for a Habitat Conservation Fund Grant that would provide the funding to purchase ALL the materials to finish rebuilding the boardwalk! Good morning everyone. Friends of Lake Cleone must cancel the upcoming Lake Cleone Boardwalk work weekend on September 23rd and 24th. Unfortunately we have not received our funding from our Habitat Conservation Fund grant as of yet. Please stay tuned to the Facebook page and we will keep you all updated when we receive the funding and purchase the tools and materials. As soon as the money is in we will immediately plan another work weekend. We are sorry about the late notice. We waited as long as we could to cancel in hopes that HCF would have the grant processed and the money out to us by now.

Took an evening hike on the Lake Cleone trail to identify some nocturnal visitors to the lake for the new interpretive brochure.

We are less than a month away from our Boardwalk Weekend. If you are planning to attend please change your status from Interested to Going on our event page so that we can get an accurate head count to plan the projects that we will work on that weekend. We need to know how many lunches to purchase, tools to bring, projects to start, etc.... If you will be working on the boardwalk and will be camping there will be free camping available for Friday, Saturday, and Sunday night... if needed. A number of campsites will be reserved for the volunteers. Just check in at the kiosk and let them know you are volunteering on the boardwalk and they will direct you to the campsites that have been reserved. Work weekends are always a lot of fun and we are looking forward to seeing old friends, making new ones, and getting lots of work done on the boardwalk!!! Thank you to all who are volunteering for this event! See more
