Does your dog have a job? Perhaps it is not the job you would have hired him to do? Dogs need direction, guidance and a sense of purpose. If they do not get this, they will look in other areas to fulfill this need. Digging, chewing, pulling and lunging can become their new position if you do not give them a job. However, not every dog needs to be a guide dog or work a farm to be fulfilled. Simply waiting calmly and making eye contact before eating is a job. Walking at your side at your pace is a job. So much fun hanging with these amazing ladies, all phenomenal dog trainers while learning from the legend, Jerome of Long Beach Sheepherding. I met Jerome several years ago, and he has helped me with numerous dogs that needed to reconnect with their instincts or that needed a job. Sometimes I would not even enter the ring with a dog, but we would practice being calm around all of the excited dogs or sheep.
