It is with heavy and broken hearts that we let our market family know of the tragedy that struck our friends from Martinez Farms. In the early morning hours of Saturday, April 24, a drunk driver struck the farm’s truck as they were in route to the Little Italy Mercato. Sadly, Felix and 15 year old Julio did not survive, and farm owner Salvador Martinez was taken to the hospital (he has since been released). Please keep these families in your thoughts and prayers during this... unimaginable time. Our hearts are broken with the passing of our beloved market vendor Valente Valladares. If you’ve ever been to our market, you surely know Valente and Center Cut Fresh Fruit. One of the hardest workers we’ve ever known....meticulously preparing watermelon, mango and cucumber for his loyal customers every Sunday. We will always remember his infectious smile, kind and warm heart, incredible work ethic, and loyal nature. He was loved by customers and vendors alike, and we fee...l so lucky to have had him as a part of our market family for so many years. May you Rest In Peace Valente. What a beautiful way to support San Diego's vulnerable youth as well as our local La Jolla restaurants! In lieu of their traditional Silver Tea fundraiser, St Germaine Children's Charity created this amazing hardcover 160 page cookbook that's filled with over 50 delicious recipes, and page after page of gorgeous photography highlighting the village of La Jolla and the delectable cuisine of our neighborhood. 100% of donations made in support of the cookbook will do directly to local child abuse prevention and treatment agencies. Come pick up your copy tomorrow at the market ~ what a wonderful holiday gift idea! Thank you St Germaine Children's Charity for your incredible service to our community!
